Sunday, November 2, 2014 Arrive 10 a.m.; depart 5 p.m.
After a leisurely morning relishing sea breezes and perhaps breakfast on deck, we arrive in the port of Castellón de la Plana whose streets are lined with orange trees. Here, riders will be fitted to their bikes and helmets and begin a coastal warm-up ride. There will be plenty of time for individual exploring as well. Our ride will take you along the pristine white-sand beaches to the small Moorish village of Benicàssim with its wonderful medieval castle of Montornés. Enjoy a little time on your own. If you want the longer option you may prefer a ride along a newly created "greenway" that continues north to the town of Oropesa del Mar. The bike path is a converted railway bed that passes many little coves along the coast and medieval watchtowers once used to ward off Berber pirates in these beautiful sapphire seas.

Terrain: Easy

Short ride option: 14 miles round trip

Long ride option: 24 miles round trip

No van support for a 4-mile section along unpaved roads where no vehicles are allowed.

Monday, November 3, 2014 Arrive Alicante 8 a.m.; depart Cartagena 7 p.m.
We'll start our day in Alicante, Costa Blanca's "city of the sun," where coastal mountains provide the perfect background to the scenic port. Our morning ride takes us along the coast through quaint villages and the lovely natural park of Clot de Galvany. In Santa Pola we'll have a delightful fresh seafood lunch on the beach. After lunch we take a short motor coach transfer to Los Alcazares in the agricultural belt of Murcia. We start our afternoon ride with vast views of the Mediterranean and continue along the southern coast with sweeping ocean views on our left and soaring mountains on our right. We will ride past beaches through small coastal towns including Punta Brava, Los Urrutias, and Los Nietos. From here we will turn south passing fields, regional hills, and winding country roads through lovely pine and oak forests. This unspoiled region is home to some of the well-known cyclists of Spain. Later in the afternoon we arrive in Cartagena's port where we find Wind Star waiting for us.

Terrain: Easy with flat, gentle roads

Morning ride: 15 miles, Alicante to Santa Pola

Afternoon ride: 24 miles, Los Alcazares to Cartagena

Tuesday, November 4, 2014 Arrive 9 a.m.; depart 7 p.m.
After your morning arrival into the port of Almeria, board a motor coach for a picturesque drive through the countryside to the city of Grenada. Our ride begins and ends at the magnificent Alhambra and takes us along a lovely riverside greenway and through tiny towns, peaceful farmlands, ancient olive groves, and an iconic stone bridge. Today's route glides into the gentle Spanish plains with superb views of the legendary Sierra Nevada Mountains. We'll cycle through farming towns and along shady paths edged by thick forests. Along the way we'll enjoy local treats and tasty refreshments in charming cafés.

Terrain: Easy and flat with the only elevation going down (and back up) to the outside of the Alhambra.

Full day: 36 miles round trip

Wednesday, November 5, 2014 Arrive 8 a.m.; depart 10 p.m.
Wind Star docks this morning just steps away from Málaga's city center. Our morning ride through the city reveals the 11th century Málaga Alcazaba, the historic Jewish quarter, an ancient Arab palace, and a myriad of beautiful Spanish churches. Parking our bikes, we'll meander through Málaga's amazing Central Market where you can taste fresh olives, figs, salted almonds, and the region's many varieties of local oranges. The delights of the market will whet our appetites for lunch back on the yacht. Our afternoon leaves time to explore on your own or choose one of the scenic rides through almond and olive groves and small villages. If you'd like a rest, our van will transport you to the highest, most scenic elevation of the ride and you can pedal downhill to the coastal town of Victoria de la Rincon.

Terrain: Our short route is easy along the coast and boulevard; longer route contains hills that lead to panoramic views of Málaga and the Mediterranean.

Morning ride: 2-3 miles, city tour of Málaga

Afternoon ride options:

Short ride: 13 miles

Long ride: 27-mile loop

Thursday, November 6, 2014 Arrive 8 a.m. (Gibraltar); depart 9 p.m. (Tangier)
Awake this morning to the "Rock," known to locals as "the gib." This iconic landmark sets the tone for a day of exploration in which we'll touch three countries (United Kingdom, Morocco, and Spain) and two continents (Europe and Africa). After a walking tour of Gibraltar you may either join the yacht as we sail through the famous Strait of Gibraltar, or ride from outside Gibraltar to the Spanish port of Tarifa where riders will ferry across to Africa and meet Wind Star in Tangier. Once you arrive in Morocco you will reunite with Wind Star and take a walking tour of the fabled Kasbah.

Terrain: Easy to moderate, a combination of short coastal rides and winding interior country roads. An additional 11-mile ride is available for those who don't mind heavy traffic on the roads to the Tarifa ferry.

Full day: 37 miles from Gibraltar to Tarifa with van support for riders who choose to do only portions.

Friday, November 7, 2014 Arrive 7 a.m.; depart 5 p.m.
We start our day with a short walk from our yacht to the municipal ferry that connects Cádiz to El Puerto de la Santa Maria. After the ferry crossing to El Puerto we will join our leaders and begin our easy morning ride through farm country and vineyards to the Yeguada de la Cartuja Andalusia horse breeding estate for a private visit and tour. This 15th century estate now shelters the most important reserve of Andalusian horse lineage in the world. Our picnic lunch on the estate will feature some of the region's finest wines and sherries. Take a leisurely return ride to our yacht. Today we bid farewell to our bike guides and prepare for a day at sea to rest and reminisce before we disembark.

Morning ride: 12 miles

Afternoon ride: 12 miles
