Toucan Costa Rica Cruise

Costa Rica & Panama Canal

We’re excited to offer additional capacity on Windstar’s Costa Rica & Panama Canal starting in December, 2015, and continuing through April, 2016. Thanks to our newly expanded fleet, we’re able to organize more trips than ever in the region on this special and unique itinerary that includes amazing, adventure-filled days in Costa Rica, and exciting days seeing the wonders of Panama, including the engineering marvel that is the Panama Canal.
Previously, this itinerary was our first to sell out and nearly impossible to book due to our limited inventory – now, we’re excited to welcome more guests than ever to the region. Panama Canal and Costa Rica Cruise Map

A few things to know about this cruise:

1. It’s not a beach vacation. Yes, there are some beautiful beaches along the way (including some real stunners at Manuel Antonio National Park), but this itinerary offers more for those looking for a bit of adventure along with their days on the sand. There is ample opportunity for snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, yoga, paddle boarding, rafting, and more.

2. This is a nature lover’s cruise. The itinerary includes stops in several national parks, including the notoriously difficult to access Corcovado National Park. Because of the remoteness of the peninsula, this park has far fewer visitors than others in the country, allowing Windstar guests a fantastic (and easy) way to access this ecological gem and possibly see Scarlet Macaws, giant anteaters, howler monkeys, sloths, turtles, and more. Windstar also has onboard presentations from a Costa Rican naturalist, letting guests understand the flora and fauna around them throughout their journey.

3. You’ll tap into your inner engineer. Even if traversing the Panama Canal isn’t on your “bucket list,” cruising through this 50-mile highway of water is truly an engineering marvel that will fascinate even the deepest of skeptics. The ship is raised, then lowered 85 feet to pass gracefully through three massive locks that transport you from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic. Plus, our new 2015/16 voyages include a nighttime passage, where lights illuminate the inner workings of the canal, and you don’t have to stand in the hot sun to experience it.

4. The Private Event may be one of our best … The exclusive event, only for Windstar guests, takes you to a gorgeous, unspoiled paradise called Isla de Coiba, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is accessible only by special permit. Guests enjoy coconut welcome drinks, local music, a beach buffet, volleyball tournament, bocce ball, world-class snorkeling, and a mixology class. Need we say more?

We are booked for the Feb. 6, 2016 cruise. After taking the Istanbul/Athen’s cruise, we became Windstar fans, such that I can’t imagine any other way to see the Panama Canal, a major item on my list since High School history class.
