Travel through Nova Scotia's picturesque Annapolis Valley, the breadbasket of Nova Scotia, dotted with vibrant pastoral farmlands. En route through this region that is rich in history, nature and agriculture, your experienced guide will tell you about the 40- to 50-foot tides of the Bay of Fundy, the Acadians, the wine industry of Nova Scotia and Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley farming. Visit the UNESCO Grand Pré National Historic Site, settled by French colonists in the 1600s. It is a 6-square-mile site bathed in history, showcasing the beauty, heritage, and importance of the Acadian people, many of whom settled in the southern USA and are now known as Cajuns. During your visit, step into the Interpretive Center to see the historic park with marshlands and a replica Acadian church. On the grounds, discover the well-known statue of Evangeline, made famous by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem of the same name. Enjoy free time on your own in Wolfville to purchase a snack, or to shop and explore. Cafés, bookshops, gift stores, and historic homes invite visitors to unwind. From Wolfville Harbour Park, take in the muddy banks of the Bay of Fundy — ground zero for the Bay of Fundy's record-setting tides. Each day, water fills and drains from Wolfville — the world's smallest harbor — in extreme fashion. Next, visit Planter's Ridge Winery, an artisinal winery located in Port Williams. Enjoy a guided tour of this amazing facility, including the vineyard planted on the sandy clay slopes of a ridge overlooking Wellington Dyke. This rich pastoral setting is the perfect place to learn about the growth of the local wine industry and the production of regional wines in our unique climate. Your tour will be complemented by a sampling of 3 unique wine varieties, paired with select, local cheeses. Following your tour, enjoy some free time on site before reboarding your motor coach for the relaxing return drive to the pier.
