The name of Siracusa suggests a warm climate, blue skies, a beautiful bay, and the ancient ruins of a Greek city which was the rival of Athens.   You will board your bus for the 75-minute ride to Neapolis Archaeological Park which was created between 1952 and 1955 and contains many classical monuments. For security reasons you will only have access to the Greek Theatre and part of the Latomia del Paradiso, one of the ancient stone quarries; the other monuments can be viewed from a distance. This doesn’t detract in any way from the powerful fascination of this unique place. The Greek Theatre, dated back to 5th century B.C,. is one of the largest and best preserved theaters of the ancient world.  The Roman Amphitheater which is hewn out of the rocks, dates from 2nd century A.D., and the entrance and gangways for animals and gladiators can still be seen. You’ll proceed to Ortigia and walk about a half a mile to Old Town Ortigia.   You will visit Arethusa Fountain the legendary cradle of the city. From the nearby platform there is a view of the beautiful Bay of Siracusa, you will proceed to the Cathedral built in the 7th century on the foundation of the former Temple of Minerva, using the nine columns which can be seen on the north side and the 19 columns of the nave..

You will have time to stroll or shop along the famous Corso Umberto before you depart to the Barone di Villagrande Estate, on the slopes of Mount Etna and has belonged to the Nicolosi family since ancient times. Their skill in the production of fine wines is legendary. The red wines are stylish and firm, while the whites are long and structured with a delicate, penetrating aroma. The ancient wine cellars have maintained their historic aspect, with stainless and oak barrels aging side by side. When you arrive at Barone di Villagrande Estate, the owners will show you the old cellar and will introduce you to the range of the wines produced in the winery with a tasting, accompanied by a delicious typical Sicilian lunch. On the way back to your yacht you’ll have the opportunity to see the lava flows of 1992.

You will also have time to stroll or shop along the famous Corso Umberto before your bus departs for Mount Etna. This very active volcano is the largest in Europe at 10,723 feet, and has erupted 130 times. Your drive to Mount Etna is along a coastal highway and through a fertile paradise of green vineyards and golden citrus groves, passing through villages such as Santa Venerina and Zafferana Etnea. You will see the city of Catania, overwhelmed by an eruption 300 years ago, and walk around Crateri Silvestri inspecting the lava flow from the eruption of 1983. Lunch is included on this tour.

Please note: Strenuous uphill walking is involved so this tour is not recommended for guests with heart or respiratory conditions or those with limited mobility.  As participants will ascend to an altitude of 6,200 feet, it is recommended guests wear comfortable clothes, flat shoes and bring a jacket. 

Your coach will depart quayside for a short drive round the impressive bastions of Valletta and past Fort St Elmo. Upon arrival in Valletta, you will walk to the Upper Barracca Gardens for a panoramic view of Malta’s natural harbors and historic cities. Then proceed to St John’s Co-Cathedral, the conventual church of the Knights of Malta, where you will also have the opportunity to see Caravaggio’s famous masterpiece: The Beheading of St John.  Continue with a drive through the Three Cities – Senglea, Cospicua, and Vittoriosa. Left largely unvisited, the Three Cities will show you a slice of authentic life, and a glimpse into Malta’s maritime fortunes. The Three Cities can rightly claim to be the cradle of Maltese history. Embark traditional Maltese ‘Dghajsas’ for a 20 - minute boat trip around the harbor, crossing over to the Waterfront Laguna. 

Please note:  To enter the Cathedral, guests must have their knees covered, no stiletto heels and no bare shoulders. 

  

You will depart via motor coach and drive to Hal-Qormi, to Razzett l-Antik [Old Farmhouse].  There you will participate in a cooking challenge where you will be assigned to one of six kitchenettes, provided with setup, ingredients, aprons, and supervised by their Chef. Everyone will be encouraged to participate in the cooking.  A table with ingredients will be provided in the center of your workstation, and you and your team will be asked to prepare a particular dish, according to the ingredients provided. Points will be given on ingredients, teamwork and presentation of food.  You will also be able to take part in a food tasting including local Maltese Mediterranean Antipasti platters.  Your panoramic drive back to your yacht will go through Siggiewi and Zebbug with photo stops and short walking tours before you will arrive back at the quay for re-embarkation.

Please note: This cooking event is not wheelchair accessible. Roads in Malta can be bumpy. 

You will depart quayside in coaches for Mdina by way of Mosta where there will be time for a photo stop. This excursion will take you on a night walk through the narrow streets and alleyways of the "Silent City," rich in palaces, churches, and stately homes. You’ll see St Paul’s Cathedral, and the Ramparts. You'll also have the possibility of magnificent views from the flood-lit bastions all over the island while enjoying a glass of sparkling wine. On termination of your walking tour, you will be driven back to quay for re-embarkation.

The jeeps and crew will be awaiting you at Mgarr Harbour to begin a memorable tour on the island of Gozo.  You will discover the most beautiful hidden corners of Gozo and have the opportunity to take dramatic photographs of the breathtaking scenery plus all the highlights of Gozo, accompanied by a professional guide. Highlights of this tour include: Xewkija Dome, which is so massive it can be seen from all over the island, Ggantija Temples that are older than the Pyramids of Egypt, the Inland Sea, the Salt Pans, Marsalforn Bay, Ta Savina where you will have time for shopping for such delicacies as Gozo honey. You will also have time for a stop to go swimming.

Depart the quay and you will drive to Xaghra to visit Ggantija Temples – “the Giant’s Tower,” erected about 3500 B.C. It has survived amazingly well, its walls in places still standing to a height of 23 feet.  Drive to Victoria – Gozo’s capital. Victoria is not just the geographic heart of Gozo, it is also the center of everyday activity. You will have time to browse around Victoria's market and wander the narrow winding streets where you'll find everything from delicious fresh produce, cheeses and wines, to antiques, craft goods, fishing nets and knitwear.  Next you will visit The Citadel in Gozo, which for centuries has served as a sanctuary from attack by Barbary corsairs and Saracens. Continue your drive to the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta’ Pinu for a short visit before driving down to Dwejra, where you will have a wonderful photo opportunity at the Inland Sea and Fungus Rock.
