Sorrento, Herculaneum
The city of Herculaneum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was founded around the 4th century B.C., copying the geometric regularity of the layout of Naples. Its “decumani” (main streets) have an east-west orientation, while the “cardines” (narrower streets) run north-south. There is undeniably a “feeling” about Herculaneum, quite different from Pompeii, where you get the impression that its ancient population of 5,000 packed up and left only moments ago. Herculaneum was smaller than Pompeii but is better preserved simply because, while hot ashes consumed the wood of Pompeii’s buildings, Herculaneum was covered by hot mud which sealed and protected entire city blocks. This means that marble floors, mosaics, paintings and carbonized woods can still be admired today. You will discover the ancient luxurious properties and villas including the House of the Mosaic, the House of Deer, the Thermae (baths) and the House of Carbonized Furniture. After a guided tour, you will be driven back to meet the yacht in Sorrento.

Lipari, Vulcano by Boat with Hiking

The island of Vulcano, once called Hierò Thermessa is one of the most interesting in the Aeolian archipelago because of the exceptional nature of its landscapes and the variety of its landscapes and the variety of its volcanic phenomena. Dedicated to Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and metal working; Homer described the island as the workshop of Hephaestus, the Greek god of fire.  Your tour will begin with a boat trip around the island  with a breathtaking view of the Faraglioni ,Grotta del Cavallo,  and Vulcanello. The only landing place is the Porto di Levante.  Vulcano consists of three old craters. The first, in the south between Monte Aria and Monte Saraceno, has been extinct for centuries; the GranCratere, on the other hand, is still active, the last eruption occurring in 1890. Vulcanello, the third crater, is a promontory on the north eastern tip of the island created almost 2,000 years ago by an eruption. The climb up to the middle crater is particularly interesting and you can reach the top in less than an hour.

Please note: The hike to the volcano is only recommended for fit people as a lot of uphill walking is involved. Wear walking shoes, bring a change of clothes and bottled water.

Trapani, Walking Tour with Sicilian Coffee Break
Trapani is an attractive old port town, rediscovering its charms after years of neglect. Halfway between Europe and Tunis, it was a rich trading center throughout the early Middle Ages, then, flourished again in the 19th and early 20th centuries as a stronghold of the tuna-canning industry. After that, it went into decline, and became a salty old port. Then, it was selected to host the 2004 America’s Cup and received a massive injection of cash – buildings were restored, streets in the historic center pedestrianized – giving the town and its people a new confidence. These days Trapani is a thoroughly pleasant place to hang out for a couple of days. You will join your guide for a pleasant walking visit of the historical center of Trapani, with its many churches and palazzos with their ornate façades and elaborate interior, perfect examples of the Baroque style. At the end of the guided visit, enjoy a typical Sicilian coffee break including one cannolo and one coffee or one cappuccino, followed by 45 minute free time. At the conclusion of your tour you can leisurely walk back to the pier with your guide or continue to spend time in town returning to the ship on your own.

Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. Proper attire that covers shoulders and knees is required for both men and women to enter religious venues. This tour is not suitable for those with walking difficulties because of the many stairs and slopes to climb.

Alghero Discovery
Discover why Sardinia is famed not only for its scenic beauty, but also its history dating back more than 3,000 years. Your sightseeing will begin with a 30-minute drive along the road linking the Gulfs of Alghero and Porto Conte to arrive at the archaeological site of Nuraghe Palmavera, with its 2-story stone towers. The main tower dates back to 1100 B.C., and features an irregular, elliptical-shaped fascia. The second tower is connected to a central courtyard. A defensive fortification surrounds the whole complex with four towers marking the boundary of an ancient village. You will then head to the scenic viewpoint of Capo Caccia, an excellent vantage point of sea and shore, before heading back to Alghero. As the Aragonese landed here during the 14th century, their Catalan influence remains vibrantly alive in Alghero’s streets, shops, language, lifestyle, food, and traditions. Your 1¼-hour guided walk will pass ancient monuments, old fortifications, historic buildings, and beautiful churches before concluding at the tender pier.

As you explore, you will learn about Calvi's history, from its origins as a humble fishing village to a mighty Genoese stronghold, and now its current status as a picturesque vacation getaway. With your guide, you will begin your walking tour as you head to the entrance of the Citadel perched on a rocky hill overlooking the port. You will cross the drawbridge and stop to enjoy a breathtaking vista of the red rooftops and the crystal-clear sea. After viewing the exterior of this fabled building, you will pass the 13th century Caserne Sampiero, formerly the Governor's palace and now a military building. Make your way to the Oratoire St. Antoine to admire its Italian frescoes, then stroll along the city's ramparts and wander through the Ville Basse. LIle Rousse, Pigna & Wine Appreciation At Clos Culombu
On the heights of the inner Balagne,  lies the small village of Pigna. This town in Corsica has beautiful village charm, true haunt of artists and artisans who made it famous. The village has beautiful flowered streets and its main square is a true delight. It is one of the finest examples of the architecture of this region. After Pigna visit you will drive to Domaine Culombu. Corsica produces several very good wines, which are hardly known outside the island and visiting a vineyard for an afternoon is a pleasant expedition.  James Boswell was an aficionado, writing in his Tour of Corsica published in 1782: "The flavors of wines differ all over the island. It is a true marvel that such a slight difference in soil and exposure generates such considerable diversity."   Today the domain, in conversion to the mode of organic farming, produces vines of nielluccio, sciaccarello, vermentino, grenache and cinsault typical of the naming. The domain is mainly recognized for the elaboration of its white wines and its rosés; stemming from first juices, in the very pale grey, the specialty of Calvi. Here you will enjoy tasting three wines accompanied by Corsican cheese and bread.

Please note: In the summer months, heavy traffic can be expected in the popular town of Pigna, which may cause delays. The coach is unable to drive into the center of San Antonino and will park below the village; care should be taken walking into the village as the steps up are steep and uneven. Be advised that the roads traveled are quite windy with numerous curves. Wear comfortable, non-skid walking shoes and bring euros.

LIle Rousse, Saint Florent
Discover northern Corsica, from Calvi to Lozari. You will skirt the popular summer resorts of St. Ambroggio or Algajola and marvel at the breathtaking view over the glistening blue sea and white sandy beaches. Pass the little town of Ile Rousse (Red Island), which takes its name from the red granite peninsula at the end of the bay before the road turns inland towards the Désert des Agriates. Despite its name, this was once a very fertile region. In fact, agriates means cultivated fields, and the desert was considered the Garden of Corsica thanks to its orchards with various fruit trees, olive trees, wheat and vineyards. However, during the 18th  and 19th centuries, fires and soil erosion reduced the region to a desert and the land was almost abandoned. Nowadays the Desert des Agriates is a protected wildlife reserve. You will finally reach Saint Florent - beloved by the rich and famous and yet somehow retaining its small fishing-port personality with pretty, narrow streets and little boutiques. Your guide will set you free for a stroll on your own or a drink along the marina. Those in search of a good walk can hike to the circular Genoese citadel built in 1439. It completely dominates the town and offers a wonderful 360° view. The St. Maria Assunta Cathedral is located a half-mile from the town center and is worth a visit for its fine Pisan-Romanesque architecture.

A 30-minute drive will take you to Domaine Orsini, where you will experience the best of Corsican hospitality. In one of the most beautiful Corsican wine cellars you will get to taste some of the most delicious wines made in Corsica. You will tour the winery. The wines bear the prestigious label “Appelation d’Origine Controlée-Calvi” (AOC-Calvi). The vinification process takes the best of tradition and the best of what modern winemaking has to offer. After harvesting, the grapes are left together with their skin for the maceration process as it was done in the old days so that the grape juice keeps all of its aroma and bouquet. But the quality has been tremendously improved with the use of stainless steel barrels in the winemaking process because a constant monitoring can operated on those conditions throughout the process. Aging, on the other hand, is done in oak barrels, like in ancient times. Respect for both modern and ancient ways have produced exceptional quality wine. As an example, the Red Wine Vintage 2004 has received the coveted gold Medal at the French Salon Agricole. A bottle of Orsini wine will be offered to each guest.

Santa Margherita, Paradise Gulf & Portofino by Private Chartered Boat
Depart on an exploration of the history and culture of this region of the Italian Coast aboard a private boat. Your first stop will be in the little bay of the village of San Fruttuoso, famous for its 10th century abbey—the ancient residence of the Doria family. The fascination of San Fruttuoso lies in the architectural value of the abbey and church as well as in its splendid natural surroundings. The cliffs encircling the inlet, the small beach, the rich Mediterranean vegetation and the almost-unreal absence of vehicles create a truly unique and enjoyable atmosphere. Enjoy the view while staying on the boat for 10 minutes inside the bay. Continuing up the coast, you will arrive at Camogli, a small, typical fishing village, once the site of bustling shipyards that helped build one of the world’s greatest merchant fleets. Camogli’s original medieval setting was centered around the local parish church, located on an island that was completely detached from the mainland. Today, this island is connected to the mainland by a little square surrounded by colorful buildings and one of the most beautiful Baroque churches along the Italian coastline. Here, you will take a guided tour through the village and have some free time on your own. Focaccia bread and local wine will be served on your boat ride back to Portofino. You will visit  the beautiful Cathedral of San Martino, which houses the Volto Santo (Holy Visage) a miraculous Crucifix, Piazza Anfiteatro (the Roman Amphitheater) which today is a circle of touristy shops where the street’s  level  is 9feet above the original arena floor, and Via Fillungo, the main pedestrian street. After your free time you will re-join the group and your driver will take you to Pisa. Your tour leader will take you to the most important square, Piazza dei Miracoli.
