Malaga & Picasso Walking Tour
Those of you who delight in ancient history and art lovers cannot miss this tour! With half a million inhabitants, Málaga is located in the center of the Costa del Sol. From the outside you will admire the beautiful architecture of the Alcazaba Fortress, a historic castle built in the 11th century to be the residence of the Arabian Caliphs or Kings. It is connected by a step path to Gibralfaro Castle, an ancient Moorish fortress with breathtaking views of the city and its bay. Buses will take you to the castle so you won’t have to walk up the hill. The Museo Picasso Málaga is run by the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga and the Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso. The Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso is the rightful owner of the collection there, whereas the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga owns the group of buildings that holds it. As was initially agreed by the donors, the two foundations are responsible for the conservation, exhibition, study and diffusion of the collection. At the museum, you will be able to appreciate all Picasso styles and techniques (Painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramic and graphic works in an exhibition with 155 works ranging from 1890 up to 1973.

Please note:  This tour involves more than 2 hours of walking over uneven and cobblestone surfaces and steps are involved.  Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Malaga by Segway
Some things are just plain fun and riding a Segway around Spain definitely falls into that category. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it; then you'll never want to get off! You'll begin your ride (after an introduction to the operation of the Segway) at Plaza de la Marina, in the center of Málaga. Continue to Larios Street, the main shopping avenue of the city, then on to Merced Square, at the end of Calle Alcazabilla, to see the obelisk erected as a tribute to General Torrijos, currently the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. Next you will ride to the Santiago Church, built on the site of a former mosque and Málaga's oldest church (founded in 1490). You’ll also visit the Roman Theatre, discovered in 1951, which was built in the time of Caesar Augustus and used until the 3rd century A.D. After that time, it was used as a quarry by the Moors to restore the Alcazaba, which is the next stop on your tour. This impressive building, constructed mainly in the 11th century, was the palace/fortress of the ruling Muslims. Continuing on your tour, you’ll see the Catedral de la Encarnacion, Bishop Square, and the Paseo del Parque, before returning to Marina Square.

Please note:  This tour is not possible for people confined to wheelchairs.  The minimum age to participate is 10 and participants must weigh between 66 and 265 pounds. Helmets will be provided. Participants must sign a waiver to go on this excursion.

Tangier, Concierge Collection: Cooking Class at the Blue Door
Moroccan cuisine is considered one of the most important cuisines in the world. The cuisine of the first inhabitants, the Berbers, still exists today in the staple dishes like tagine and couscous.  The Arab invasion brought new spices, nuts and dried fruits, and the sweet and sour combinations that we see in dishes like tagine with dates and lamb. The Moors introduced olives, olive juice and citrus while the Jewish-Moors left behind their sophisticated preserving techniques that we see in the frequent use of preserved lemons, pickles, etc.  The Ottoman Empire introduced barbecue (kebabs) to Moroccan cuisine. The French colony, although short-lived left behind a culture of cafes, pastries, and even wine.  Over time, cooks in the kitchens of the five royal cities (Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes, Tangier and Rabat) have developed and perfected the dishes that blend each of these distinct tastes. Every Moroccan dish has its place in society and varies with the market, the season, and the region. Your first stop will be the Grand Socco, home to a cavalcade of color, charm, street musicians, a fish market, scenic handicrafts, and spices. You will then proceed to Blue Door Hotel Cooking Classroom, where you will be welcomed with Moroccan tea followed by a cooking lesson of a very traditional Moroccan dish,  learn how to make the traditional Moroccan bread and take it to a local oven. In the meantime, while waiting for the bread, you will learn how to make and serve a real Moroccan tea. Once food is ready, enjoy lunch and this authentic experience. Depart for your ship  with the knowledge needed to impress at your next dinner party.

Please note: Wear comfortable, flat  walking shoes. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, local currency.

Tangier, Lixus Roman Ruins, Larache & Azilah
Board your coach and drive to the town of Larache approximately 2 hours away from Tangier on the north of Morocco’s Atlantic coast. En-route, you will make a stop at the Ruins of Lixus. The ruins of the ancient city of Lixus serve as a fascinating reminder of the area’s past. These Roman ruins, a popular attraction in Morocco, are set in a very picturesque area on a hill with the Loukkos River winding through the open fields and marshes below and forested hills to the north.  The site of the Ruins of Lixus was extensively excavated between 1948 and 1969, during which time some restoration took place. One of the large mosaics discovered represented Poseidon – the Greek god of the sea, horses and earthquakes. These excavations covered approximately 20% of the 75-hectare area of the Lixus ruins. Continue to Larache for a short walk through the old medina before savoring a local lunch. After lunch, continue to Azilah. Throughout history, the small coastal city of Azilah has been coveted by both Portugal and Spain, and thus has been a longstanding scene of great bloodshed. The city is well known for its enormous cultural and artistic contributions to Morocco’s history. Every summer, the international festival of Azilah attracts thousands of people from all over the world. Take a walk through the old town with its narrow streets to learn about Azilah’s fascinating history.  It is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, especially during the summer, with so many quiet places, Mediterranean architecture of the houses (painted in white and blue), the gentleness of its people, the museums, and the street-artists from around the world.  After visiting this beautiful town you will enjoy a refreshment stop at a local resort before returning back to Tangier.

Please note: Wear very good hiking shoes, bring sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, and local currency.

Tangier, Tantalizing Tangier & Tetouan
Disembark the ship and depart by air-conditioned coach for a drive to St Andrew's Church. The Lord's Prayer is inscribed in Arabic around the chancel arch, which is built on land given to the government of the Queen of Great Britain - Queen Victoria - by the Sultan Moulay Hassan I in 1883. A century earlier Morocco had been the first country in the world to recognize the independence of the United States of America. Your guide will lead you into one of Tangier's most colorful and bustling areas, the Grand Socco (Souk). It is the center of things and the link between the medina and the new city.  From here your guide will lead you to the American Legation Museum, which documents the history of the relationship between the United States and Morocco. Among several displays, there is a letter from George Washington to Moulay Abdellah. You will then drive to Tetouan, and upon arrival, enjoy a typical Moroccan lunch in a beautiful Riad in the Old Medina of Tetouan. After lunch you will tour the old Royal Palace, a 17th century building closed to public entry but its main ornate gate Bab Er-Rouah can give you a mental idea of what is beyond. Hassan II Square is situated where the historic and modern parts of the city converge to create the heart of the town. Join a guided walk through the Medina which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have the opportunity to visit the Bab Akla School of Traditional Arts and Crafts. Tetouan’s famous School of Plastic Arts, the first of its kind in Morocco, has produced some of Morocco’s best painters over the past half century. The city stands out for the beauty of these traditional arts including embroidery, cuisine, zullayj or mosaics, and carved and painted wooden objects. The scholars of the school are all children that come from disadvantaged backgrounds and the skills learned give them a new opportunity for success in their future. Lisbon, Majestic Sintras & Cascais With Transfer to Windstar Hotel
Your motor coach and English-speaking guide will take you via the beautiful coastal road bordering the River Tagus, driving through the fashionable resort of Estoril - the home of several international royal exiles during the Second World War – to the lively scenic village of Cascais.  Here you will have some time to wonder around its plaza and enjoy its colorful setting of seaside café terraces, small shops, and sailboats. For six centuries Sintra was the favorite summer residence of the kings of Portugal, who were attracted by the cool climate and the lush beauty of the town’s setting.  Writers and poets in general – Lord Byron, Alfred Tennyson, Hans Christian Andersen, and Isaac Bashevis Singer chose Sintra as a preferred destination. The tall conical chimneys of the National Palace and the fabulous Pena Palace, are two unmistakable landmarks of this area. You will have the opportunity to taste local pastry in one of the cafés in Sintra before free time to explore this town recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. Return back to your Windstar Hotel in Lisbon.
