Bastia, Bastia & Taste Of Corsica
Bastia was founded by the Genoese in 1380, when they were looking for a naturally sheltered port to replace the ancient Roman city of Mariana and Biguglia (which had been destroyed by the Corsicans in 1372). The Genoese needed a city and port which could ensure contact between their “homeland” and their “colony.” Even if this small port was swept by terrible  winds, it was protected by a rock, easily defensible, and upon which a dungeon (or bastiglia) was built- and hence the name of the town Bastua. You will be met by your tour guide for a walking visit of the old City and the citadel . During your city tour by foot you will enjoy a stop for a Corsican spuntinu and tasting of Corsican specialties.

Bastia, Corsican Tales And Legends
Bastia was founded by the Genoese in 1380, when they were looking for a naturally sheltered port to replace the ancient Roman city of Mariana and Biguglia (which had been destroyed by the Corsicans in 1372).  They needed a city and port which could assure the contact between their “Homeland” and their “colony”. Even if this small port was swept by terrible winds, it was protected by a rock,  easily defensible, and upon which a dungeon (or bastiglia) was built- and hence the name of the town Bastia. The numerous religious buildings dotted all over the island bear witness to the profound religious fervor of its inhabitants and their attachment to the Catholic faith. Despite this, the collective consciousness remains steeped in many pagan traditions, with relics of ancient beliefs. The mystical spirit of Corsica finds its true expression during the great Christian festivals, however the barrier between the natural and supernatural world is extremely permeable and Corsica is teeming with visionaries, faith healers, and mediums. This walking tour will take you to some purportedly haunted sites, and give you an overview of the superstitions and local legends which still hold sway.

Bastia, Corte
In the heart of the island, half way between Ajaccio and Bastia stands Corte, raised slightly above the floor of the valley by its position on a hill. On the eastern slope, the quarters of the old town rise in steps up to the ramparts of the Citadel which, perched on a rock outcrop, towers over the confluence of three rivers. Being the only inland military stronghold in Corsica, Corte established itself as the strategic crossroads, controlling all of the inland areas of the island.  You will board a little train which will bring you up to the city of Corté.  Your tour will  begin at the end of Cours Paoli in Place du Duc de Padoue and the statue of Jean Thomas Arrighi de Casanova .  Just above here is the Place Poilu where Napoleon's parents once lived. To the left you will see the Palais National, the administrative building that’s ground floor was for a long time used as a prison. With the re-establishment and inauguration of a new university in Corte in 1981, the Palais National became a Centre for Corsican Studies and now houses that institution's library.  You will climb steps which follow the walls of the citadel, and reach a viewing point with a magnificent view of Corte and its environs. The rocky outcrop of the citadel can clearly be seen, as can the Eagle's Nest built in 1419 by the viceroy of Corsica. Today the citadel houses the Musée de la Corse and the Fonds Regional d'Art Contemporain. You will have time to take a stroll by yourself for souvenir shopping,

Marseille, Aix-En-Provence Cheese & Wine
The quaint town of Aix-en-Provence is a sunny enclave brimming with historic landmarks and colorful cafés serving delectable local cuisine. Your half-day adventure will begin with a walking tour that showcases Aix’s beauty, the inspiration for many artists, including former resident Paul Cézanne. A 30-minute scenic drive brings you to the city center, where you’ll proceed down the grand Cours Mirabeau, a wide avenue shaded by 200-year-old trees, once the social hub for the French elite in the 1650s. Admire the elegant façades of the mansions and enjoy the spray from its romantic fountains. Continue on to the old Mazarin District, where you’ll find the St. Sauveur Cathedral with Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque architecture dating back to the 15th  century.  From here, your guide will escort you to a fromagerie (cheese shop) nestled in a tiny alleyway. Here you’ll enjoy a wine & cheese pairing in a relaxed setting, marveling at the variety of the local products. Goat cheese is the most prevalent type of cheese in the area due to its climate and vegetation that supports goats more than sheep or cows.  The goats produce only a small amount of milk, but it is very flavorful, and a variety of cheeses are produced.  Savor the cheeses and local delicacies along with Provence wines which have a bright and crisp characteristic on the palate. The city wall has four square towers from the 4th  century. From Pals you'll have great views to the rice fields of the Ter River plain and the Medes Islands in the sea. After some free time in Pals, a coach will take you back to the ship.

Palamos, Dali Museum
Begin your excursion with a scenic drive to Figueras, located in the northern part of the Empordà region, a sweeping fertile plain that lies inland from the Gulf of Roses. Enjoy the sights of small towns on the way to the highlight of your day, the Dalí Theatre-Museum. Prepare yourself for an extraordinary experience while visiting the museum, which houses the works of one of the art world’s geniuses of the 20th century, Salvador Dalí. Built by Dalí himself around the former Municipal Theater, the museum is where most of the artist’s works can be seen, and where his first exhibition was held. Dalí was also buried at this site alongside the church that was also the scene of his christening and funeral. Upon entering the museum, you will take in the huge collection that encompasses his most outstanding works. Highlights include Rainy Taxi, Sala Mae West, a scenography of a living room, which turns into the face of the legendary actress through optical illusion, and the enormous portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Also see the crypt where Dalí is buried. Upon departing the museum, enjoy some free time in town, to browse the shops in Figueras before reboarding your coach for the return drive to Palamos.

Please note: Wear sunscreen and your sunglasses.
