Ullapool, Castle Leod
Castle Leod is the home of the Chief of the Clan Mackenzie, the Earl of Cromarty, whose family has lived there for 500 years. It is one of the few castles in Scotland still to be occupied by the original family and remains very much a family home today. Occupying a magnificent setting below Ben Wyvis and just outside the Victorian spa town of Strathpeffer, Castle Leod's parkland boasts some of the finest trees in Scotland, the star attractions being the largest tree in the UK, a Wellingtonia, and a Spanish chestnut which was planted for a visit by Mary of Guise in 1550, the earliest known planting date of any tree in Britain. The Earl of Cromarty himself will personally welcome you to his ancestral home and conduct your private tour today. Enjoy the lived-in atmosphere and the fascinating history of the castle as well as the collection of fine portraits, maps and furniture and the Mackenzie Room situated in the old kitchen. A dram of fine malt or a soft drink will be included in this tour.

Ullapool, Knocking Crag - Heart of the Geopark
Head north with your knowledgeable guide into the wilds of Scotland for a fascinating opportunity to learn more about the geology of this dramatic and beautiful area.  At Knockan Crag you will have the opportunity to see the geological feature first identified right here – the ‘Thrust’ (in which enormous forces move rocks sideways) has since been recognized in rocks around the world, including the Himalayas and Alps. At Knockan Crag, the Moine thrust has resulted in an unusual situation where older Moine rocks have come to rest over much younger rocks.  The rocks at and around Knockan Crag also record the last 3,000 million years of history for the landmass we now know as Scotland. Accompanied by an expert in the area’s geology, you will learn about this fascinating natural feature, spend some time in the excellent visitor center and walk along the Thrust Trail where you can bridge 500 million years with your bare hands. For the less energetic, the ‘Quarry Trail’ allows a return before the short climb that rises to the thrust.  There will be plenty of time for independent exploration on any of the trails.

Dublin, Dublin Castle & Saint Patricks Cathedral
Dublin's official date of establishment was in 988 A.D. although evidence of its existence dates back to the second century in which it was named Eblana. Ringaskiddy, Blarney Castle & Panoramic Cork
Depart the city on a 45-minute drive to Blarney Village. The village lies in the protective shadow of historic Blarney Castle.  The castle was built in two sections and has a massive oblong keep, with battlements that are typically Irish in form.   Below them the famous Blarney Stone is set in the wall, and to kiss it, one has to lean over backwards from the parapet walk of the battlements. Enjoy a visit to the castle - to kiss the famous Blarney Stone which, legend tells us, imparts the gift of eloquence to all those who kiss it. Blarney is also home to Blarney Woollen Mills, a building, which dates back to 1823, and is now one of the finest craft and gift centers in Ireland. Enjoy an Irish Coffee and browse through the wide range of Irish clothing, crystal, linen, and handicrafts. Your panoramic tour will introduce you to Cork, Ireland’s second city (or the “real capital” of Ireland as the inhabitants like to call it!) which began life as an island on the swampy estuary of the River Lee just upstream from Cork harbor, one of the world’s largest natural harbors. Today the Lee flows through the city in two main channels, so that you find yourself constantly crossing bridges. In fact, it is this feature of the city that gives it its distinctively continental air. Today, Cork has become the shopping and commercial capital of the south. It is a university city with a unique character, a city of jazz, film, opera and Theatre. However, as well as offering the many amenities of a large city, it still manages to retain the pleasant charm and friendliness of a country town.  You will see the spires of  St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, the Old Courthouse, City Hall and the renowned Bells of Shandon.

Ringaskiddy, Cork City Walk
Cork, a city of steeples and bridges, was made for walking. From many vantage points it can all be seen at a glance, as it is a compact city in size yet diverse in its range of activities. Its quays that stretch all the way into the heart of the city welcome ships. The city center presents streets lined with a multiplicity of shops, arcades and boutiques. The city is mildly cosmopolitan yet engagingly Irish.  It is pleasantly spread out among the hills that rise up on both sides of the Lee River. The city center is actually a small island between two channels of the river and a plethora of bridges. Join your coach and guide and travel to Cork to commence your guided walk. Walk along Andersons Quay and across Michael Collions Bridge.  Walk along The Boardwalk on Lapp's Quay before stopping to enjoy views of City Hall and the Spires of St. Fin Barre's Cathedral in the distance. Walking up South Mall and onto Princess Street,  continue to see St. Fin Barre's Cathedral.  Designed and built by William Burgess the city has been given a church full of exuberance.  Its style is all things romantic, ornate and possibly even exotic. Stop for a photo stop of the exterior. Continue through the streets into the heart of the Hugenot area, taking note of the  Hugenot Cemetry on Careys Lane.  Continue your walk back to where your awaiting ship is located and for your exclusive inside visit to the Port of Cork Offices and their historical boardroom. Completed in 1819 at a cost of £70,000 ($99,743), it was the headquarters for Cork Customs and Excise. It is a new Palladian building and is now home to the Port of Cork Company. The reception is located on the "Piano Nobile" which means "noble floor." The white columns are a typical feature of Palladian buildings but it is the boardroom that plays host to some of the most magnificent features that Neo-Palladian buildings display. With chandeliers produced by Waterford glass, mahogany furniture and Palladian-style windows, architecturally this room is a fabulous place to pause and take in the detailed features through your guided tour. Rejoin your coach and guide for your return drive to port.

Board your private motor coach for a tour through Cork’s charming countryside and visit the unique sailing town of Kinsale. A photo stop will be made at Charles Fort, overlooking the bay and the town beyond. Continue to the town of Kinsale where a stop will be made for refreshments. Kinsale is a town where the quality of the environment itself is a very strong attraction, winning the European prize for Tourism and the Environment, Entente Floreale, National Tidy Town and gourmet capital awards!  It is a pretty little town, which lies snuggly between hills and valley. Kinsale is believed to have been founded by the Anglo Normans in around 1177.  It was a magnificent naval base in the 17th and 18th centuries, and seemed to have enjoyed a degree of prosperity uncommon in Ireland. In 1966 it became the first town to be awarded the Flag of the Council of Europe.  During your tour you will see that Kinsale owes its unique character to the fact that it was a garrison town and port of consequence for over 300 years – hence the magnificent Georgian homes and the Dutch influence of its architecture.  It was also the natural landfall for all the great sailing ships from the continent and the Americas. You will have time to walk around this beautiful town, browse in the shops and soak up the local atmosphere.  Re-board your motor coach for your return drive to your ship, passing on the way the towns of Dunderrow and Innishannon where a photo stop will be made overlooking the Bandon River.

Your walking tour this afternoon will take you along part of the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastal path that runs from Amroth in the south to Dogmaels in the north. You will begin your circular walk with your experienced guide close to the main Fishguard to Cardigan Road. From here the well-defined path skirts several fields before joining a quiet country lane that leads downhill to Aberbach which is a small, beautifully secluded pebble beach surrounded by low cliffs that are packed with tiny coves and caverns. The area is widely used by kayakers and there are spectacular views out to the sea and inland to the tors of Carn Bica and Carn Gelli rising above the village of Penrhyn. This stretch of coast is great for sea birds and you may be able to spot gulls, ravens, choughs and peregrines on the cliffs. You will also find buckshorn plantain, vetch and thyme which are some of the plants that are able to grow well in the thin soil on top of the cliff.

Depart your ship and head toward the second largest castle in Wales. Pembroke Castle was built in the 12th century by the Normans and was the birthplace of Henry Tudor (Henry VII).  Set on a limestone hill, it guarded the strategically important town of Pembroke. Visit the impressive castle and enjoy the guided tour that will bring this ancient castle to life. You will enjoy a short drive to the ancient town of Tenby, a picturesque walled medieval town with a historic harbor.  The old walls are almost completely intact and have served well to preserve the old town from the effects of modernization and development.  The narrow lanes and small squares remain much as they were 500 years ago.  Walk with your guide and discover the fascinating history behind this delightful ancient town, before enjoying free time to stroll along the scenic coast and through the charming town center. Fishguard, St. Davids - Smallest City in Britain
Depart the pier and drive through the beautiful natural landscape that Wales is so famous for, and arrive at the city of St David’s with its fabulous cathedral that lies at its heart. Built hidden in a depression below the town square in the hope that Norse invaders would pass without noticing it, this 12th century cathedral is magnificent and steeped in antiquity. The floor slopes three feet upwards and the pillars lean drunkenly (though not precariously!) as the result of an earthquake in 1248.  This cathedral is the only one in the United Kingdom in which the reigning monarch has a permanently reserved pew.  You will enjoy time with your guide exploring this delightful city and see the extensive ruins of the 12th century Bishop’s Palace (outside view only), before returning through the scenic Welsh landscape back to the ship.

Please note: St David’s Cathedral is still in use today, therefore closures are possible at short notice due to funeral ceremonies, christenings etc. St David’s is steep with uneven surfaces and some steps. There is a long hill and/or steps down to the cathedral which some people may find difficult. Wheelchair guests will need to be accompanied as the guide cannot undertake responsibility for them during the tour.

St. Peter Port, Castle Cornet Town Walk
Join your local guide on a tour to the center of the town of St Peter Port, which has a fascinating history. A busy port since Roman times, the deep, safe anchorage and relative remoteness from France has made the town the Channel Islands’ premier port. It is a picturesque town with cobbled high streets and narrow alleys and regency buildings. From the harbor, you will see Castle Cornet, originally built on an island and now reachable by a raised walkway built in the 19th  century. Built on the site of Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements, the castle has been built, partially destroyed and rebuilt many times with Medieval, Tudor and World War 2 remains. The castle dates from the 13th  century when It began as a fortification against the French after the island decided to side with England following the loss of Normandy. It has been used as a garrison, arsenal and prison. Castle Cornet guards the entrance to Guernsey’s harbor and offered defense of the seaway between the islands of Herm, Jethou and Guernsey and towards Sark over many centuries.  See and hear the key highlights of the castle with your guide before spending some time in the ‘Story of Castle Cornet’ exhibition, or exploring the castle and perhaps some of the  four small gardens within the castle walls - including the apothecary’s garden, kitchen garden and ornamental gardens. The castle contains a number of interesting museums including the Maritime Museum, the Story of Castle Cornet Museum, the 201 Squadron RAF (Guernsey's Own) Museum and the Militia Museum. After your visit to the castle, return with your guide or on your own to St Peter Port harbor and the ship.

Le Verdon to Bassens, Full Day in Medoc with Loic Siri & Lunch
Depart from the ship for an exclusive wine connoisseur day in the Medoc vineyards! Your guide during this special day will be a famous Bordeaux wine blogger, Loïc Siri, also a winegrower in the Medoc vineyards. You will have a 75-minute panoramic drive along the famous "Route des Châteaux" (the wine chateaux road). The Medoc peninsula stretches from the Atlantic coast to the Gironde estuary north of Bordeaux. Despite being extensive, the grape-growing area itself occupies only 20% of the land in a narrow strip along the estuary, the rest being made up of forests. First stop at a classified wine estate in the St Julien or Pauillac wine district. During your guided tour you will discover the cellars and wine making secrets of the château. Proceed to the tasting room where you will enjoy a tasting of 2 wines from the estate. Time for lunch! Stop at Relais & Chateau Restaurant Cordeillan-Bages, on Château Lynch-Bages estate, in the heart of the Medoc vineyards, a hedonists' delight where land and sea overlap! Every table at the Cordeillan-Bages restaurant offers a unique atmosphere. Its spacious and minimalistic décor is enhanced with paintings by artists such as Pierre Alechinsky, Antoni Tàpies, Tan Swie Han. The dining room offers bright openings onto the terrace and vineyard. Allowing a glimpse of the wine cellar, the adjacent tasting room, provides an intimate setting for a small gathering. Its connecting garden terrace overlooks the 17th century turrets of the "chartreuse." The local produce has turned the venue into a gastronomic mecca. After lunch, continue your drive along the wine Chateau road and enjoy a photostop at one of those splendid architectural and wine-making wonders, such as Château Château Margaux. And then your last stop will be in the Margaux district with a visit to the cellars of a classified wine estate, before a tasting of 2 wines from the estate to end your beautiful day! Your coach will then take you back to your ship.

Please note: Tasting of wines at estates & restaurants – must be 21 years old to participate. The order of sights visited may vary. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Le Verdon to Bassens, Medoc Vinyards
The ship will pause in Le Verdon today, located at the mouth of the Gironde estuary, to drop off guests ashore for an exploration in the heart of the Medoc vineyard region. Your first visit will lead to one of the few 1855 Classified Great Growth Château at Chateau Lagrange or Chateau La Tour Carnet, or similar. There, you will be introduced to the techniques of wine making during the visit of the tank and barrel cellars, and before a wine tasting of two wines from the estate. Continue your journey along the Wine Château Road through the Medoc vineyards. Next stop is at the Château Lamothe-Bergeron Winery in the Haut-Medoc vineyards. Deemed to be one of the leading Cru Bourgeois Superior Wines of the 19th century, Lamothe-Bergeron has always been a benchmark Haut-Medoc wine. The estate’s history began with Jacques de Bergeron: the enlightened scientist acquired the estate in 1773. After a year of renovation, this 19th century castle receives visitors for a unique experience in the Bordeaux wine region. After the tour of the cellars and of the estate, you will enter the 19th century fairytale castle to enjoy another private tasting of 3 vintages of Château Lamothe-Bergeron paired with appetizers. Rejoin the coach traveling down the famous Chateaux Wine Route viewing magnificent estates on both sides of the road; each one more beautiful and elegant than the other. Bilbao, Beach & Medieval Village By Horseback
Enjoy a horseback beach trail riding with kindred adventurers only a few miles away from the Port of Bilbao. The area offers almost 124 miles (200 km) of white sandy beaches, one after the other, coves hidden amidst cliffs, marshlands, estuaries, and dunes. Stunning landscapes where the sea blends with the mountains, make the whole area a paradise of contrasts waiting to be discovered.  Equestrian tourism is an enjoyable, original, different way to discover the land. The activity is planned to be developed in small groups according to each rider’s skills. Castro Urdiales - also known as Flavióbriga after the Roman settlement which stood here, has all the charm of a small seafaring and fishing village, with a rich tradition and tourist atmosphere. The town center, with its characteristic houses with wooden rows of balconies, is medieval in origin and earned recognition as a Historic Site in 1978. Its main monuments, of different styles and periods, contrast with the sobriety of the old village, formed by narrow streets which are perfect for strolling through. The buildings of the church of Santa María, from the 13th to the 15th centuries, the most significant example of Cantabria's Gothic architecture, and the castle-lighthouse, visible from all parts of town, are the most representative sights in Castro Urdiales (outside visit of both monuments).

A number of interesting sights will be visible from your coach along the 2½-hour drive each way, and your guide will introduce you to local traditions and history as you travel. The city of Granada is truly beautiful, and nothing in all of Spain compares to the wealth of architectural art to be found in the city’s Muslim-Hispanic complex – the 14th century Alhambra, where you will be met by another guide. This breathtaking example of Muslim architecture is surrounded by walls and towers and inside, palaces, military buildings, a fortress and an administrative center. Explore this remarkable structure, with its detailed mosaics, prism-style cupolas and stone-cast latticework offering a surprising grace and sophistication. Visit the inside of the Nasrid Palaces and the nearby Generalife Gardens surround this residence of kings and caliphs. An additional delight is the opportunity to experience a traditional Spanish-style lunch at Ruta Del Veleta restaurant.  Typical lunches are 1.5 hours long and include appetizers, salad, a main course, Spanish wine, and dessert.

Please note: It is a 2.5-hour motor coach drive each way to Granada.  This tour is not recommended for those with mobility issues and there will be walking up and down steps and over uneven, sometimes dirt, and cobblestone pathways.  Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. A short motor coach drive past olive trees and local vegetation brings you to the quaint 14th century village of Valldemossa, located at the foot of the Northern Mountain Range.
