The 70-room summer estate of Cornelius Vanderbilt II, president of the New York Central Railroad, was built in 1895. Architect Richard Morris Hunt modeled the 4-story residence after 16th century Italian Renaissance palaces. You will discover this gracious and immense cottage of the Vanderbilt family on this unique outing offering a new perspective.  From the pier depart along America’s Cup Avenue and then Bellevue Avenue to The Breakers, the largest and best known of the summer cottages remaining from the gilded-age.  Upon arrival, begin in the caretaker’s cottage with a short video on the engineering of the manor before heading to see the massive boilers that powered all floors.  Take the 360-foot long tunnel that connected the boiler rooms to the basement of the house.  Here you will get an up-close look at the cutting-edge construction techniques, electrical and plumbing systems of more than a century ago, and their modern counterparts.  The home was the pinnacle of the available technology when constructed.  From the basement, head upstairs to the entry of the mansion.  You will collect your audio headset and begin your narrated exploration.  Be sure to look for the sculpted figures tucked above the pillars. The interior includes rare marble, alabaster, and gilded rooms with open-air terraces revealing magnificent ocean views. Noteworthy are a blue marble fireplace, rose alabaster pillars in the dining room, and a porch with a mosaic ceiling that took Italian artisans six months on their backs to install. Your tour will conclude in the extensive shop where time is afforded to browse before meeting your guide for the return to the pier.

Newport, Colonial Walk
Newport is one of America's oldest cities and has the distinction of retaining more original colonial-period buildings than any other.  You will meet your guide and stroll through the heart of Newport's National Registered Historic Landmarks District and hear the story of how this long-neglected neighborhood became a model for historic preservation. With the help of tobacco heiress Doris Duke, who personally financed much of the restoration, the historic district is now home to more than 80 fully restored colonial homes.  Along the way, you will pass architect Peter Harrison’s Brick Market Museum, the Old Colony House, the White Horse Tavern, and the Quaker Meeting House.  Watch for the Touro Synagogue -- the oldest synagogue in the country and one of the many sites visited by Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.  You will return to the quay via the square where Hollywood producer-director Stephen Spielberg filmed Amistad in 1997, among the city's most picturesque landmarks.

Newport, Rose Island Lighthouse
Enjoy a scenic harbor cruise to nearby Rose Island – an excellent way to appreciate the colonial heritage, yachting history and opulent estates of an area rich in maritime lore. You will see remains of 200-year-old Fort Hamilton and explore the fully restored Rose Island Lighthouse – now an important wildlife sanctuary. First lit in 1870, the Rose Island Lighthouse was lovingly restored to its original late-19th century ambiance in 1993, and is a classic example of American maritime architecture. Rose Island has been of strategic importance since the Revolutionary War. Today, it plays an important role as home to a number of migrating birds.  A visit to this “living museum” will offer an insight into a life spent tending the light and raising families in dedicated self-sufficiency.  You will join a naturalist guide for a brief stroll through the lighthouse grounds before re-boarding the boat and cruising back to the pier.

Explore the beautiful city of Washington DC – America’s capital – as you enjoy time at leisure to discover the sights. After an approximate 90-minute drive you will  arrive into Washington DC where you can become acquainted with this cradle of US history, forum for global issues and virtual open-air museum during your free time. Centrally located on the National Mall, your drop-off point is the National Air and Space Museum. This spot is an ideal place from which to start your independent discovery. You may wish to begin with a visit to the museum to see a moon rock and the Wright brothers’ plane that launched the age of aviation. Other must-see exhibits include the Spirit of St. Louis and the Apollo 11 command module. The decision of what you do during your period of free time is up to you.

This full-day tour will offer you a well- rounded overview of this dynamic capital city. From the pier in Baltimore you will depart for the nation’s capital, Washington DC. After approximately 90 minutes you will arrive at Arlington National Cemetery, the United States’ most important burial ground. This shrine occupies approximately 624 acres on the high hills overlooking the capital. More than 400,000 people are buried here, including veterans of all national wars, Supreme Court justices, literary figures, slaves, presidents, astronauts, and other national heroes. Spend 1 hour here exploring the grounds on foot seeing the most memorable resting places of history’s notable, including the grave of former US president John F. Kennedy with the eternal flame. Continuing, you will be introduced to the highlights of DC, which include the magnificent Lincoln Memorial anchoring the National Mall, an awe-inspiring tribute to this country’s 16th President. It also served as the location for Martin Luther King’s memorable “I Have A Dream” speech in 1963. The nearby Korean War Veterans Memorial consists of a circular Pool of Remembrance in a grove of trees, and a triangular Field of Service depicting a platoon of 19 larger than life American soldiers of different ethnic backgrounds on patrol. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is located on the grounds adjacent to the Lincoln Memorial, and is an impressive structure featuring the names, in chronological order, of more than 58,000 dead or missing servicemen and women. Enjoy a brief photo stop outside the White House. Proceed to Union Station and enjoy lunch on your own. Designated a historic landmark of great importance, Union Station is a monument to the great railway age of days gone by. Today, it is also a spectacular retail, shopping, dining, and entertainment complex. Next enjoy some time at leisure and, if you wish, you may visit the Air and Space Museum, one of the most well-known museums in Washington, and the world’s most visited museum. Here is an adventure that is great for underwater explorers and history lovers! Learn the history and myths of the legendary SS Sapona, the cargo steamer that ran aground in 1926 during a hurricane. It is easily visible above the water and has become a landmark and popular site for diving and snorkeling. It’s a short walk from your ship to the dock where you will board your boat for the 45-minute ride to the Sapona. Don your snorkeling equipment and you’ll have an hour to swim through this unique concrete vessel now home to colorful fish and sea life. You will also  visit a coral reef named Turtle Rock, known for the large coral brains that peak out of the water during low tide.This historic site has cultural value and well as being an entertaining site to snorkel.

Samana, Caves & Mangroves Exploration
After a safety briefing, you will depart from the pier aboard speedboats for a truly unique ecological experience. Los Haitises National Park is a protected virgin forest accessible by water and represents a growing destination for ecotourism. The number of visitors allowed is limited to this tour and is for those who want a unique experience. Haitis (singular) means highland or mountain range in the Taino Indian language, although the elevation of the park's hills ranges from 98–130 feet. There is a multitude of caverns, adorned with pictographs and petroglyphs. You will circle the small cay known as "Bird Island" while your expert guide explains the importance of the many migratory and indigenous birds that inhabit the mangroves and island. After cruising around Bird Island, your captain will dock the boat at one of the fascinating caves. You will discover what the underwater looks like in a “sit on top” double clear bottom kayak.  The journey takes 15 minutes from the port to your starting point at Grand Mal Bay, next to the Sunset View Restaurant, on the West Coast.  There you will board your kayak and begin your fantastic journey over the Grand Mal coral reefs, down to Cherry Hill, turn around and move on to Mollinere Bay where you will view the popular divers’ reefs, and experience the wonders of the underwater world. Here is some wet and wild fun exploring the island on E-Sea Riders, fast, 2-person inflatable motorboats. You will be the pilot on an exhilarating adventure that will include snorkeling.  You will be transferred to the E-Sea Rider base in the lagoon where you will be welcomed by the staff and provided with an orientation on boat operation before heading off, following your guide.  You will pass the large yachts in Port Louis Marina and inside the charming Carenage of St. George’s before entering the Caribbean Sea along the colorful coastline to your snorkeling destination. Pigeon Island, Rainforest Canopy Zip Line Adventure
Take a bird’s-eye-view of rainforest bird and plant life as you soar high above the ground on this zip line adventure.   You will enjoy a one-hour journey along a somewhat winding road toward Dennery Fishing Village. Soon you reach the Zip Line Welcome Center in the heart of the rainforest. After a safety briefing you will be on your way along 4,000 feet of cables suspended between platforms. There are also two net bridges that provide access between platforms. The fully integrated system of cables and rigging is carefully designed to deliver a thrill all under safe conditions. Although this ride does not demand physical ability, the adrenaline rush is one you’ll long remember.

Please note:  You should wear tops with sleeves and avoid very brief shorts. Long hair must be pinned up and shoes should be well secured to your feet. Some step-climbing is involved. You will be required to sign a waiver to participate on this tour. Weight limit is 250 lbs.

Imagine walking in zero gravity while surrounded by incredible aquatic life - that’s Sea Trek!  Sea Trekking is as close as it gets to the sensations of walking in space.  Take a walk on the “wet” side which brings you face to face with the marvel of marine life.  Your tour will begin from the gently sloping sandy beach at Pigeon Island.  All Sea Trek tours begin with a medical questionnaire and safety briefing.  You will be equipped with a specially designed Sea Trek helmet, which sits comfortably on your shoulders. Trekkers breathe freely underwater from a continuous flow of air pumped in to the back of the helmet through a hose attached to a pod system. There are no masks, no mouthpieces, no stress and no complications. You can even wear your prescription glasses, as your entire head stays dry throughout your underwater adventure.  Pre-certification is not necessary and swimming skills are not required. If you can walk and breathe, you can Sea Trek.  Just relax on the beach afterwards before heading back to the ship.

Enjoy an underwater experience that offers the best way to go beyond snorkeling without the responsibility or commitment of a deep dive. SNUBA requires no time-consuming training, dive experience or bulky equipment, leaving you with absolute freedom and comfort to breathe easily under water and enjoy the tranquility and beauty of our Marine Life.  Under the supervision of warm, friendly and certified SNUBA guides, you will intimately explore marine life from a fully guided and safe perspective.  All SNUBA tours begin with the completion of a medical questionnaire and safety briefing.  A pre-dive orientation will then be done which includes the dive guidelines and regulations.  Divers are encouraged to proceed to depths according to their individual level of comfort.   Whether you opt to cruise at the surface or descend to the maximum depth of 20 feet there will be no need to surface for air or to tussle with bulky equipment. The SNUBA excursion takes place at Pigeon Island where your ship will be waiting.

Pigeon Island, Two-Tank Certified SCUBA
A PADI-qualified boat will take you on a leisurely cruise along the west coast of St. Lucia, passing a few resorts and fishing villages before arriving at your diving destination. The gardens of coral in the Soufriere Marine Reserve span an area from Marigot Bay down to the Pitons, offering a wonderful array of fish including snapper, sturgeon, parrotfish, triggerfish, and more. This will be an exciting treat for all divers. After your first dive, you will return to the boat for refreshments and a light snack before heading out for a second dive to either a wreck, wall, or reef dive.

Please note:  As this is a two-tank dive, there is a 40-minute to 1-hour rest period between the first and second dives. The depth of the second dive is anywhere between 40 to 75 feet. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing and bring a towel. (Towels will be available at the gangway.)  Your waiver release form must be signed and medical conditions must be disclosed. You will need valid PADI/NAUI Certification to participate on this dive.
