Costa Maya, Mayan Culture Experience
Experience Mayan reality on a cultural adventure that will both educate and delight you. Many visitors think of the Mayans as an ancient civilization that disappeared long ago, but the fact is that while many other indigenous groups have vanished or been absorbed into the general population, the Mayan culture, customs, language, and beliefs remain strong on the Yucatan Peninsula even today. On this tour you will witness the reality that faces these remarkable people as their ancient culture collides with and blends into the modern world. Begin your adventure in a small, contemporary Mayan community built up around the remains of an ancient Mayan settlement and stop at one of the fascinating ruins located right in the middle of town. Follow your guide into a traditional Mayan house where you’ll learn about the local food and see authentic Mayan cooking techniques before feasting on this delicious cuisine. If you have visited any Mayan ruin or are remotely interested in the first people that populated the Americas, then you will be surprised, fascinated, and left with a new-found respect for this long-lived culture and the legacy they leave in Costa Maya.

Belize City, Howler Monkey Sanctuary
Visit the Community Baboon Sanctuary, and be inspired by their success story in the protection of the Black Howler Monkeys (Baboons in Creole). Established in 1985, this baboon sanctuary was set up as a cooperative agreement among 12 local farmers and landowners in Bermudian Landing who voluntarily agreed to preserve the area’s black howler monkey habitat as a way to support the local economy by drawing in tourism and creating jobs. Today, CBS is more than just a wildlife conservation area. The program has become such a success that over 220 private landowners across seven Creole villages participate, and the entire community works to protect the forests and rivers. Years of grassroots conservation efforts are showing the results: the black howler population has grown from a couple of hundred to over 2,000 monkeys, and now their high numbers provide visitors with guaranteed sightings. The CBS is a wonderful place to experience the wonders of a Belizean Rainforest first hand. The visit will begin at the visitor's center, where a knowledgeable local guide will explain the project and then take the group for a small tour of the property where you can expect to experience Black Howler Monkeys firsthand, wonder at the majesty of the rainforest, and learn about traditional rainforest plants and medicine. Your tour will end with a delicious Belizean lunch near the Belize River.

Horta City Walk
Leave the pier on foot accompanied by your local guide to discover Horta, a well-known transatlantic staging post since the Age of Discoveries. A walk along the sea avenue will take you to the Marina, the main recreational harbor of the Azores and one of the most busy and famous in the world. It is a linking point for international regattas, and superstition tells sailors to paint a mural on the breakwater in order to attain divine protection during the rest of their trip. Overlooking the Marina is Santa Cruz Fort, built in the 16th century to protect the harbor from pirates, privateers, and foreign navies. Part of the history of Faial can be witnessed at Horta Museum installed in the old Jesuit College, storing collections of documents, ethnography, photography and art. A visit to this town would not be completed without passing by the famous Peter´s Café where you can take the opportunity to try a gin or a coffee ( not included) and relax . Return to the pier on foot.

Horta, Island Scenic Highlights
On this land of hydrangeas, green silence and cliffside contemplation, it is easy to believe the legend that the nine islands of the Azores are all that remain of the lost continent of Atlantis. Board a motor coach for a panoramic drive that will take you first to the belvedere (viewpoint) at Espalamaca for views of the port and the charming town of Horta. Visitors are often reminded by nature that, in the Azores, they might experience four seasons in one day. The road ascends 3,000 feet to the vast volcanic crater in the center of the island. This caldera is more than a mile in diameter and 1,200 feet deep, surrounded by some of the most luxuriant vegetation imaginable. Continuing westward, you'll pass the typical Azorean villages of Ribeira Funda, Praia do Norte, and Norte Pequeño, and catch a magnificent view of Capelinhos, the volcano that rose from the sea in 1957.

Horta, Whale & Dolphin Watching
Lying in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, the Azores islands are a permanent home or point of passage for more than a third of the world´s whale and dolphin species. Sperm whales, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and Risso´s dolphins are present all year round. Other species visit or pass by during specific seasons. Summer months are the best time to see Atlantic spotted dolphins, pilot whales and striped dolphins, while the spring months are the time to see migrating baleen whales such as blue whales, fin whales, and Sei whales. The whale watching activity, which takes from 2.5 – 3 hours, is done with a professional team of lookouts, skippers and biologists on rigid inflatable boats. Before you leave to the ocean, the whaling company will make a briefing including information about the species you may see, and the Azorean Whale Watching code of ethics.

Please note: Wear comfortable clothes,  rubber-soled shoes and waterproof jacket; bring a camera, hat, sunscreen, and local currency if you wish to purchase any goods. This activity depends 100% on the weather conditions, so it can be cancelled or postponed in case the conditions are not favorable. This activity takes place with animals in their natural habitat, therefore the possibility of sightings is totally dependent on their behavior. This tour is not recommended for children under 8 years old, pregnant guests or guests with back, neck or joint problems. Participants have to be able to walk from the jetty to the embarkation ( no access stairs nor ramp).
