Hong Kong, Explore Lantau Island and Monastery
Hong Kong's largest island, Lantau, is home to some of the region's best and remotest beaches, wilderness trails, monasteries and monuments as well as some of the territory's most popular attractions. The island is known for its un-spoiled countryside, virgin hills and lush green valleys. For a look at a rare example of a Chinese stilt-house community, you will head to the far northwestern coast edge of Lantau Island, Tai O. This is home to the Tanka people, a community of fisherfolk who have built their homes on stilts above the tidal flats for generations because they do not feel safe on land.   Tour the stilt houses that dot the riverside where you will see an all but vanished side to Hong Kong life. The next stop will be a visit to Ngong Ping 360, and features a stunning 3.5-mile cable car ride through Lantau Country Park. The 22-minute journey will offer breath-taking panoramic views encompassing the airport, South China Sea, lush mountains, and the awe-inspiring Giant Buddha statue.   Climb the 268 steps to get an up-close look at the world’s largest, outdoor, sitting bronzed Buddha. The Po Lin (Precious Lotus) Monastery is home to the world’s largest bronze outdoor sitting Buddha. Nestled among scenic mountains, Po Lin was built by three monks and was originally called Da Maopeng but in 1924, it was renamed Po Lin Monastery. The Monastery is also home to a 3-story exhibition with a large bell that is rung 108 times per day to “relieve 108 vexations.”  You will enjoy a simple, yet tasty, vegetarian lunch, similar to what the resident monks eats.

Your tour will begin with a visit to Shanghai Yu Garden  where 400 years ago, a merchant spent almost 20 years—and all his life savings—to build a garden in order to please his parents in their old age. “Yu” means peace and health in Chinese. Over the past several centuries, the Yu Garden has been restored and reopened several times, but has almost always been in disarray. In 1956, the Shanghai city government took over and restored it to its former splendor, making it a peaceful oasis in the heart of bustling Shanghai.  Outside the garden gates, the Old Bazaar is the perfect place to strike a bargain or chat with locals selling a variety of wares and souvenirs. Then you will head to the beautiful water town of Zhujiajiao.  Founded over 1700 years ago, Zhujiajiao started out as an ancient water village and bustling market town. Located at the confluence of several local rivers, it is still home to about 60,000 people.  You can stroll along its centuries-old streets and explore the many ancient bridges crisscrossing its canals, or take a boat ride to discover the town’s unique character and charm.

The most impressive one is the model that shows all existing and approved buildings in Shanghai, and takes up an entire floor of the museum. Another model shows how Shanghai will look in a few decades, and Old Shanghai has been reconstructed on a lower floor, complete with cobblestones, shops and teahouses. Next you will have a 45-minute transfer to Caoyang New Village for lunch with a local family. Caoyang Village has recently begun inviting foreigners to experience authentic Chinese culture by engaging in the daily life of its people. During this exciting new program, you will be invited to experience life as a Caoyang resident. During the visit, you'll head to local residences, wet markets and retirement communities to meet the people of this vibrant community. Then you will head to the Shanghai Tower a mega-tall skyscraper located at the heart of the central business district in Shanghai’s Pudong area. It is the tallest of a group of three adjacent iconically tall buildings. The structure is 2,073 feet tall, which makes it the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the world. The unique design of the tower’s glass facade, which completes a 120° twist as it rises, goes beyond just creating a spectacular appearance: Its aerodynamic shape drastically reduces the amount of force that wind exerts on the building — particularly significant when considering Shanghai’s frequent typhoons. The Tower sports 121 floors above ground and 5 floors underground with an observation deck on the 119th floor. The elevator ascends at record speed traveling over 67 feet per second. In total it takes less than a minute to reach the top.

Shanghai, Side Car Tour
Discover Shanghai from a totally new perspective: onboard a vintage sidecar motorbike. The motorcycles used for these unique guided tours are Chinese Changjiang 750cc's, which were built based on the 1956 Soviet IMZ M-72 (which in turn was a replica of the 1938 BMW R71). On this tour you will discover a side of Shanghai not seen by most as you take an intimate look at classic sights such as the Old Town, French Concession and People's Square. Your English-speaking driver will provide commentary along the ride. The tour is 2 hours long and 2 people will share one sidecar. You will also stop for lunch at a local restaurant and enjoy Chinese Dim Sum.

Qingdao, Best of Qingdao
St. Michael's Cathedral, known by locals as simply the "Catholic Church” is located in the oldest part of Qingdao. Built by German missionaries, the cathedral stands at the top of a hill facing Qingdao Bay in the center of the old German-built part of the city. The church is active today and as of 2008, more than 10,000 Catholics in Qingdao attend services here, which are held in Korean and Chinese. Zhan Bridge is located at the coastal area at the southern end of Zhongshan Road, and is an extension of the road into the sea. It is just about 0.3 miles from Qingdao Railway Station. Whether travelers come to Qingdao by train or by ship, Zhan Bridge, a Qingdao landmark, welcomes them at their first stop in this beautiful coastal city. Badaguan, literally "the Eight Great Passes," is a historical mansion area located near Qingdao's coastline. The area is made up of streets named after great military forts of the ancient times. Originally a residential area for the Germans built when Qingdao was a German protectorate (1897-1914), the houses are built in a variety of European architectural styles. Each street is lined with a single species of tree, and many streets are colloquially named after the trees that line them.  Surrounded by mountains on three sides and facing the sea on the other side, the Zhanshan Temple (Zhanshan Si) is situated in the eastern section of Qingdao City.  The temple consists of three courts. The buildings, covered with black tiles and constructed with gray bricks, are all built in the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The main buildings - the Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Grand Hall, the Hall of the Three Saints and the sutra depository - are concentrated in the middle court. Your next stop will be Tsingtao Brewery founded in 1903 by German settlers. At present, the company owns 55 beer and malt factories in 18 cities and provinces throughout China.  You will head to the original and still-operating brewery. On view are old photos, preserved brewery equipment and other relics, but there are also a few fascinating glimpses of the modern factory line. The aroma of hops is everywhere. Of course, you will also get to sample brews along the way.

Please note:  Bring your hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent, and wear comfortable walking shoes and conservative clothing. Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter the church and no shorts are allowed. This tour is not wheelchair accessible and not suitable for people with mobility issues. Chinese-style lunch is included with this tour.

Qingdao, Qingdao at a Glance
Signal Hill is one of the 10 major hill parks in Qingdao. It was once a signaling station during the German occupation in 1897and offers 360° panoramic views of Old Qingdao and includes many scenic spots such as the hexagon pavilion, the YuLan Pavilion, the open-air tea house, and the arch bridge. Qingdao is well-known for its unique examples of Western architecture, with the Qingdao Guest House truly deserving pride of place. Located on the southern slope of the picturesque Signal Hill, the splendid building (now a museum) resembles a classic German castle built in the Jugendstil or Art Nouveau style. The Guest House was the official residence of the German governor, and remains one of the best examples of German Imperial architecture anywhere in the world.  You will see original German furniture dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644 -1911), as well as antiques, calligraphy and paintings, which are all kept in their original locations.   Your next stop will be Tsingtao Brewery founded in 1903 by German settlers. At present, the company owns 55 beer and malt factories in 18 cities and provinces throughout China.  You will head to the original and still-operating brewery. Qingdao, Qingdao Landmarks
Today you will visit some of the well-known landmarks of Quindao. St. Michael's Cathedral, known by locals as simply the "Catholic Church” is located in the oldest part of Qingdao, at 15 Zhejiang Road. Built by German missionaries, the cathedral stands at the top of a hill facing Qingdao Bay in the center of the old German-built part of the city. It is the largest example of Romanesque Revival architecture in Shandong province.  The church is active today and as of 2008, more than 10,000 Catholics in Qingdao attend services here, which are held in Korean and Chinese.  The Protestant Church of Jiangsu Road stands on a hill in the south of Qingdao. Built by German missionaries during the early years of the 20th century when the German imperialists opened China's trading ports and occupied Qingdao, it has long since been simply referred to as the “German Church.”  The church, open to tourists since 1999, can hold a congregation of 1,400 people. Tianhou Palace, or Temple of the Queen of Heaven, was built in 1467 during the Ming Dynasty and is one of the oldest remaining buildings in Qingdao. Various Tianhou Temples can be seen in China's coastal cities as well as in Southeast Asia, as it is generally believed that to worship the Queen of Heaven can ensure a smooth and safe sea voyage. As with other similar temples, the front gate of Qingdao's Tianhou temple faces the sea. In 1996, Tianhou Temple was renovated, and became part of the Qingdao Folk Customs Museum, which houses more than 100 original cultural relics of local customs and folklore.  Tsingtao Brewery was founded in 1903 by German settlers and at present, the company owns 55 beer and malt factories in 18 cities and provinces throughout China. Qingdao, Taoism & Mt. Lao
Board your motor coach for the 75-minute ride to Mount Lao, or Laoshan, a mountain located near the East China Sea on the southeastern coastline of the Shandong Peninsula. The mountain is culturally significant due to its long affiliation with Taoism and is often regarded as one of the "cradles of Taoism."  It is the highest coastal mountain in China and the second highest mountain in Shandong, with the highest peak reaching 3,716 feet.  At the peak of Taoist worship, Mount Lao was home to nine palaces, eight Taoist temples, and 72 nunneries that housed nearly 1,000 monks and nuns. However, many of these structures are no longer standing.  At present, the Taiqing Palace or Temple of Supreme Purity, and the Shangqing Palace or Temple of Great Purity, are the largest and oldest among the preserved Taoist establishments. You will visit the Taiqing Palace. Mount Laoshan is also known for its oddly shaped rocks, ancient trees, and crystal-clear springs. Among the most famous springs are the Tianyi Spring on the mountaintop, the Shenshui (Immortal Water) Spring in the Taiqing Palace, and the Shengshuiyang (Ocean of Holy Water) Spring in the Shangqing Palace. You will spend 1.5 hours in this tranquil setting.

Please note:  Bring your hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, insect repellent, and wear comfortable walking shoes and conservative clothing. Beijing, Orientation Tour with Transfer to Hotel
It's not just the ancient architecture that wows tourists, Beijing is also home to some of the world's most innovative modern buildings. Today's transfer will pass by some of Beijing's most iconic landmarks, both old and new.  You will board your air-conditioned motor coach for the 2-hour drive to Guomao, the center of Beijing's Central Business District. Home to a number of super tall skyscrapers and the famed CCTV Headquarters, Guomao is one of China's most important international financial centers. You will be taken to Tian'anmen Square along Chang'an Avenue, literally "Eternal Peace Street." This 10-lane-wide avenue is one of Beijing's major thoroughfares, whose existence goes back to the days of Imperial China. Prepare to be overwhelmed by the sheer size of one of the world’s largest public squares, measuring over 109 acres. The symbolic center of the Chinese universe, Tian’anmen Square’s northern gate  is the gate through which visitors enter the Forbidden City. Other notable buildings include The National Museum of China, the Great Hall of People, the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, and Zhengyangmen Gate. The National Museum of China sits opposite to the Great Hall of the People. Boasting some 2,153,000 square feet of space spread over 48 exhibition halls, it is the largest museum in China and one of the largest in the world and features replicas of bones of Peking man and many hundreds of decorative objects. The Great Hall of the People is a state building that is the political hub of Beijing and used for legislative and ceremonial activities by the government and the ruling Communist Party of China. Finally you will see Zhengyangmen, colloquially known as Qianmen or Front Gate, the largest of the nine gates of Beijing's historic Inner City Wall. The gate once guarded the southern entry into the Inner City, which was off-limits to most Chinese. Zhengyangmen was first built in 1419 during the Ming dynasty. Tour ends at your hotel.
