2024/2025 Winter Mediterranean

2024/2025 Winter Mediterranean – A Different Perspective

Windstar is rewriting the script on Mediterranean vacations with an exciting new 2024/2025 winter season that offers even more once-in-a-lifetime experiences, more personal interactions with locals, more space at must-see attractions, and more ports of call. In fact, we’ll be one of the few small ship cruise lines sailing these waters this time of year!

There are so many memories that are only possible by visiting the Mediterranean in winter, when the sun is less intense and summer crowds have gone. Fall harvests offer a bounty of food and wine opportunities, and we help you take full advantage of them with delicious market visits, wine tastings, and intimate cooking classes.

The dark days of winter are anything but as Europe decorates for the holidays. Lights beam on the exterior of Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia, on Christmas trees in Rome’s St. Peter’s Square, and on the canals in Venice. Christmas markets and ice rinks glow with festive lights and decorations. Then in February and March, they’re replaced by Carnevale lights that welcome boisterous parades and masked revelers.

Imagine getting to explore places like Pompeii, the Vatican, and Capri without the buzz of crowds. Getting to dine and shop when places are less busy, prices are lower, and locals are more relaxed. And imagine enjoying novel experiences during a wealth of overnight stays, like seeing both Florence and Pisa from Livorno, walking Dubrovnik’s medieval Old Town and city walls at night, and going tapas-hopping late into the evening in Barcelona. We’ll also overnight in Venice, giving you time for tea with a countess and an evening gondola ride; Malaga, where choices range from Andalusian white villages to Cordoba; and Catania, where you can spend a day in Taormina and join the locals in Catania for an evening passeggiata (leisurely walk).

Discover maiden ports like Crotone, an everyman’s small Italian village where you may have the charming parks and historic landmarks all to yourself. And from Genoa, head to Milan for a look at da Vinci’s manuscript or a cooking lesson in a Renaissance palace. Some ports are rare stops for Windstar, giving you the chance to experience well-known places in our unique small-ship style. In Naples, a brand new excursion takes you to the Royal Palace of Caserta, the largest former royal residence in the world, and also a well-known set for Star Wars movies. Bike ride around town or taste local delicacies at Valencia’s Mercado Central, a modernist masterpiece. It's a new perspective on the Mediterranean, with all the attractions you love plus a whole lot more!
