Your tour departs from the port for the 1-hour drive to reach Montserrat, a peculiar rocky mountain range which is the site of the monastery where people come to worship “La Moreneta,” the black Madonna who is the patron-virgin of Catalonia.  The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat was founded in the 11th century and is located in a natural park 37 miles west of Barcelona. Besides visiting the Benedictine Abbey Monastery, you will admire also the Patron of Catalonia, Saint Mary of Montserrat that is worshiped at the shrine in the Monastery. The Benedictine community, now numbering some 80 monks, has served the shrine for almost 1,000 years. They are dedicated to a life of prayer, to working and to welcoming pilgrims, making the site a place for dialogue, prayer and culture. In addition to the monks, the escolans also live in Montserrat. They form the oldest boys choir in Europe ( and might be available during the visit).  You will be given a tour of the monastery, and have some free time before taking the coach back to the Windstar hotel.

You will board your motor coach for the short ride to beautiful Tarragona, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your walking tour will start at the Roman walls with the three old towers that still remain in Tarragona: Arquebisbem, Minerva and Cabiscol Towers. Your tour will depart for the 75-minute drive to the town of Porto Cristo, one of the oldest anchorages of the island. This fishing village is located at the end of a sheltered bay which developed in the Middle Ages to cater for Manacor. On the outskirts of the town is where you will find the famous Caves del Drach are located. The Caves of Drach are the most popular caves with tourists. There are three main caves, Cueva Negra (Black Cave), Cueva Blanca (White Cave) and Cueva Luis Salvator, at the end of which is a place called La Ventana (the window). Through La Ventana there is a huge lake, now known as Lago Martel (Lake Martel), behind which is the latest discovery of the caves, now known as Cueva de los Franceses (Cave of the French). Enjoy a row boat ride across Lake Martel, one of the world’s largest underground lakes accompanied by live classical music. The beauty of the caves can be appreciated thanks to its exceptional lighting. You will stop in Porto Cristo, with a short amount of time to browse at the pearl factory.

Palma is the capital of the Balearic Islands and lies on the southeastern coast of Mallorca Island. A wealth of architectural highlights awaits you. Board your coach and travel to your first stop at the circle-shaped 14th century Bellver Castle, one of the world’s very few rounded castles and the only one of its type in Europe. Built in military-influenced Gothic style, it lies atop a hill affording expansive panoramic views over the city and surrounding countryside.  You will travel on to the handsome 13th century La Seu Cathedral, which presides over the city and is one of Europe’s finest examples of pure ecclesiastic Gothic architecture. After exploring the Cathedral’s interior you will view the exterior of the adjacent Almudaina Palace. This austere palace was originally an Arab fortress and later the palace of Majorcan kings. Before returning to the yacht you will stop to see the unique style and architectural engineering of the city’s famous bullring.

 

Please note: Comfortable shoes with rubber soles are recommended. There are approximately 100 steps from the coach parking area to the La Seu Cathedral. Spanish law requires that motor coach guest’s wear their seat belts at all times while in vehicles that are so equipped. On Sundays and holidays the Cathedral is not open to visitors. The history of the Cathedral will be given outside. When visiting the Cathedral, knees and shoulders must be covered. Bellver Castle is closed on Mondays and the visit will be from the outside only with extra time for shopping.

             

 

 

 

One of the best ways to experience some of Mallorca's dramatic scenery is this train ride across the island that allows you to see the rugged interior. From the port, a short motor coach ride will take you to the train station. You will board the old fashioned electric train for Soller. Learn all about this old fashioned electric train that has preserved its traditional character for almost 100 years. You will be passing almond and locust-bean trees, groves of olive trees and the lush and pine covered mountains.  Arrive in Soller and take a walking tour around this charming village before returning to your yacht.

A short motor coach drive past olive trees and local vegetation brings you to the quaint 14th century village of Valldemossa, located at the foot of the Northern Mountain Range. Its former royal residence, La Cartuja, is the first stop on your tour. The residence became a Carthusian monastery in the Middle Ages and your guide will show you the chapel, a pharmacy, and the monks’ library. Valldemossa’s shining moment was in 1838, when George Sand and Frederic Chopin came to live at the monastery. Their stay here is well documented and a collection of their furniture remains. George Sand later wrote a book about their time here, entitled “A Winter in Majorca.” You will have an opportunity to taste the typical sweets from Valldemosa called Coca de Patata, an individual sweet cake made with potatoes. The drive back to the ship will give you the opportunity to view the impressive cliffs to the north.

Leaving the pier by motorcoach, you will head to the city on a panoramic drive towards the main venues before getting to the bike shop. Be outfitted and get a briefing before heading out to explore Valencia's old & new. Passing the Turia Gardens and heading towards the Serrano Bridge and Towers the main entrance for the old wall part of Valencia. Inside you will be seeing the Cathedral and Plaza de la Reina, the narrow streets of the Old Town and the Central Market, an enormous metal, ceramic tile and glass Art Nouveau building built in 1928, with its 1,300 stalls of fresh fish, meat and fruits, selling products from all over Spain. Then see the spectacular façade of the Silk Exchange, a late Valencian Gothic style civil building which dramatically illustrates the power and wealth of one of the great Mediterranean mercantile cities. It was built between 1482 and 1548, and declared an UNESCO site in 1996; nowadays it is one of the principal tourist attractions in the city. Then you will cross the "De la Mar" Bridge, heading to the "City of Arts & Science" complex (CAC), along the former bed of the River Turia, this complex was designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela. The City of Arts and Sciences is a unique complex devoted to science, technology, nature and art joining together the Hemisfèric, the Umbracle, the Príncipe Felipe Sciences Museum, the Oceanogràfic and the Palau de les Arts. Bike by in the complex’s gardens and once finished you’ll drop your bikes off at the shop and will be taken back by motorcoach to the pier.

You will enjoy this unique experience way more than just a visit to a simple restaurant. You will travel to this typical Valencian farm house from where you will spend time in the garden to pick some vegetables for making the paella and salads. Return to the main house of La Barraca and if you want, you can join the cook and see how the real and typical Valencian Paella is prepared. While the rice is cooking enjoy a gourmet tasting of Valencian “horchata de chufa” and “peanuts of collaret” from the Valencian countryside. You will take a drive along the Avenida del Puerto to the Square Central Market that covers more than 26,246 feet over two floors. Enjoy an external view of the 167-foot-tall Miguelete Tower connected to the cathedral. Just a few kilometers from the Port of Cartagena, this beautiful hacienda will delight you with the magnificent steeds of the ranch, pure Spanish-bred horses with fine bloodlines and a graceful appearance.  You will have the special opportunity meet the family and ask them questions. These carefully bred horses are sent to horse lovers all over the world. Looking and even touching the broodmares, seeing  the foals and new babies, watching the impressive stampede show, the Spanish Horse Training and the art of managing stallions are some of the things you will enjoy during the visit to the ranch. But just before returning to the pier, and while tasting some snacks you will be treated with an Andalusian dancer and a stallion performance. One of Cartagena’s greatest treasures is its tasteful and colorful cuisine. Also the panorama of the valley will delight all your photographers. Once you have visited the village, you will have your gastronomic experience in a local Restaurant, Secret Garden, where you will be able to taste two kinds of wine, accompanied by delicious Spanish Jamón and cheese tapas. Those of you who delight in ancient history and art lovers cannot miss this tour! With half a million inhabitants, Málaga is located in the center of the Costa del Sol. From the outside you will admire the beautiful architecture of the Alcazaba Fortress, a historic castle built in the 11th century to be the residence of the Arabian Caliphs or Kings. It is connected by a step path to Gibralfaro Castle, an ancient Moorish fortress with breathtaking views of the city and its bay. Buses will take you to the castle so you won’t have to walk up the hill. The Museo Picasso Málaga is run by the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga and the Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso. The Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso is the rightful owner of the collection there, whereas the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga owns the group of buildings that holds it. As was initially agreed by the donors, the two foundations are responsible for the conservation, exhibition, study and diffusion of the collection. At the museum, you will be able to appreciate all Picasso styles and techniques (Painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramic and graphic works in an exhibition with 155 works ranging from 1890 up to 1973.

You'll begin your ride (after an introduction to the operation of the Segway) at Plaza de la Marina, in the center of Málaga. Continue to Larios Street, the main shopping avenue of the city, then on to Merced Square, at the end of Calle Alcazabilla, to see the obelisk erected as a tribute to General Torrijos, currently the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. Next you will ride to the Santiago Church, built on the site of a former mosque and Málaga's oldest church (founded in 1490). You’ll also visit the Roman Theatre, discovered in 1951, which was built in the time of Caesar Augustus and used until the 3rd century A.D. After that time, it was used as a quarry by the Moors to restore the Alcazaba, which is the next stop on your tour. This impressive building, constructed mainly in the 11th century, was the palace/fortress of the ruling Muslims. Continuing on your tour, you’ll see the Catedral de la Encarnacion, Bishop Square, and the Paseo del Parque, before returning to Marina Square.

You will board the motor coach for the 30-minute drive to Cap Spartel, one of the promontories projecting into the waters of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. It is unique in that it is also covered with rock-roses and cork-oaks.  From here, you will drive to the town of Asilah, which is situated approximately 1 hour from Tangier on the northwestern tip of Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Throughout history, the small coastal city of Asilah has been coveted by both Portugal and Spain. The city is well known for its enormous cultural and artistic contribution to Morocco’s history. Every summer, the International Festival of Asilah attracts thousands of people from all over the world. Upon arrival in the town, we stop at Asilah Golf Club for refreshments. Then you will take a walk through the old town with its narrow streets to learn about Asilah’s fascinating history.  Time will then be spent exploring this beautiful seaside resort. After visiting this gorgeous city, you will return back to Tangier for a shopping stop before re-joining the ship.

Tetouan is a Berber name which literally interpreted means "the eyes" and figuratively "the water springs."  The town features a fort, squares, mosques, fountains, taverns, and one of the Kings palaces. You will depart by motor coach on a guided orientation drive through the city of Tangier en-route to Tetouan, an hour away. You will start your tour at the old Royal Palace, a 17th century building which is itself a reflection of the Hispano-Moresque architecture. The palace is closed to public entry but its main ornate gate Bab Er-Rouah can give you a mental idea of what is beyond.  Hassan II Square is situated where the historic and modern parts of the city converge to create the heart of the town. You will join a guided walk through the Medina which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This traditional walled souk features many typical architectural traits related to its history and also a multitude of different artisans carrying out their trades.  You will also have the opportunity to visit the Bab Akla School of Traditional Arts and Crafts. Tetouan’s famous School of Plastic Arts, the first of its kind in Morocco, has produced some of Morocco’s best painters over the past half century, and keeps alive these traditional art forms in the modern world. The scholars of the school are all children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and the skills they learn give them a chance of success for their future. Your entrance fees go directly to maintaining this wonderful initiative.  Enjoy refreshments at a local Moroccan restaurant, located in the heart of Tetouan. Tangier is a fascinating city to visit and contrary to popular belief the movie Casablanca was based on Tangier, not Casablanca. It is an interesting mix of North African, Spanish and French cultures.  Your coach will take you on a 30-minute drive to the entrance of the Kasbah of Tangier.  Walk inside the Kasbah and  then you  will head uphill to an area barely changed since Roman times. Back down the hill you will find yourself in one of Tangier’s most colorful and bustling areas, the Grand Souk. It is the link between the medina and the new city. You will stop at the Continental Hotel for a refreshment before boarding your coach for the return trip to your waiting ship.

You will continue along Liberty Avenue a charming old boulevard place of several international stores (such as Prada or Armani) lined with gardens and known for its unique black and white mosaics on the sidewalks on the way to Marquês de Pombal Square. The highlight of your visit is the church of the Jeronimos Monastery (outside visit only), a masterpiece of Manueline architecture, widely acknowledged to be the finest sight in Lisbon, built in the 16th century to commemorate the discoveries of Portuguese navigators. Nearby, you will see the lavishly decorated Belem Tower, and the Monument to the Discoveries, built to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator. On the way to the hotel or to the airport, you will see, stretching across the Tagus River, the April 25th Bridge, sister to the Golden Gate, and the towering Christ the King statue on the far side.

You will climb to Monte by cable car. This village located at an elevation of 1,772 feet  high was the last residence of Carlos I of Austria, who is buried in the Church of Our Lady of Monte. This panoramic introduction to La Palma is ideal for those who prefer to tour at a more relaxed pace. Embark on a scenic panoramic drive to the west of the island and through the upper region of the Aridane Valley.  The area is the highest point of the island and is also home to the charming town of El Paso. Enjoy a little free time to take some photos and admire the town’s beautiful surroundings.  You’ll leave El Paso and take a short drive to the delightful La Glorieta Square. The square is the work of local artist, Luis Morera, who was once a pupil of César Manrique. Here, you can enjoy a photo stop and view the unique and colorful mosaic floor, reminiscent of Manrique’s designs found in Lanzarote.  Afterwards, you’ll head to the southern tip of La Palma and on to Fuencaliente. There will be some time to relax during a refreshment stop at a local restaurant, before the return drive to the port.

 

Please note: This tour involves limited walking, however passengers must be able to negotiate steps on to and off the coach. The drive involves some hairpin bends and is not suitable for those who suffer from vertigo. Wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the lush scenery, as you travel along the mountain roads, passing vineyards and banana plantations to the small town of El Paso. A short stroll will take you to the unique Silk Museum, where you’ll see the 500-year-old tradition of silk weaving. This is the only place in Europe where the old processes have been preserved. During your visit you’ll have time to admire the stunning garments that have been crafted. Manolo Blahnik, the famous shoe designer, who is from the island, has created exquisite footwear using the local silk. Then it will be time to experience the beautifully restored 17th   century sugar estate, Hotel Hacienda de Abajo. Surrounded by rich vegetation and botanical gardens, the manor buildings display a varied collection of fine arts, furniture and porcelain, and boasts the largest collection of tapestries. With your guide, you’ll explore a selection of the public rooms, followed by tea and pastries overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Finally, before heading back to Santa Cruz, enjoy a brief photo stop at La Glorieta Square to admire the stunning mosaics created by a local artist, Luis Morera.

Drive through vineyards and lava streams passing pine trees and small villages towards the deep south – the area where the volcanoes take charge. Arriving at Fuencaliente, a famous wine-producing region, you will visit the San Antonio volcano.  Here you may be able to walk over the crater border and stroll around the Visitor Centre.  A visit will be made to a typical bodega, where you will have the opportunity to sample some of the local red and white wines.  You may also wish to purchase the wines that you have sampled. A short drive will bring you to the pottery center of ‘El Molino’ in Mazo.  Located in an old windmill, this pottery is unique to the Benahorita people, which is to this day lovingly reproduced. There is a gift shop for you to purchase those all-important souvenirs.

 

Please note: The walk near the volcanoes is over rough, graveled ground and narrow, uneven paths with some inclines. Please follow your guide’s instructions and do not venture near the edge of the walking trail, as there are no handrails or barriers. There are some steep inclines and steps at El Molino Pottery.  This tour is not recommended for guests suffering from vertigo. The walking at the Volcano is optional. Board your motor coach to travel to the wonderful forest of Garajonay, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and your first destination after leaving the island capital, San Sebastian. Standing at over 4,000 feet above sea level, the views you’ll see provide a magnificent panorama that stretches to the neighboring islands of Tenerife in the east and La Palma in the west. Making a number of stops along the way, you will have a myriad of opportunities to take photographs and enjoy the view.  You will then begin your descent to the coast. Included on this tour is a visit the incredible Valle Gran Rey, home of the island’s last “Guanche” Chieftain, and you will learn about the conquest of La Gomera at the beginning of the 15th century. Dominated by the surrounding curtain of mountains, you’ll discover remote communities and terraced farms that cling to the valley walls all around. A short stop for refreshments in Arure will be made then route back to your ship in San Sebastian.

From San Sebastian, the island’s capital, you’ll visit La Gomera’s most interesting sights, traveling by motor coach. First you’ll head north to the agricultural valley of Hermigua, famous for its banana plantations. The Garajonay National Park covers the southern part of this municipality and one of its landmarks is the twin rocks “Roques de San Pedro.”  You will see the subtropical thermopile forest of Laurisilva Woods before traveling on to the small, enchanting village of Agulo. Surrounded by a massive basalt wall almost 984 feet high, Agulo offers a breathtaking view of the nearby island of Tenerife. It’s a short 15-minute drive to Centro Visitantes Juego de Bolas in Las Rosas a center where you will learn the history of how the island was formed. Your next destination will be Laguna Grande in the middle of the National Park Garajonay, where you will enjoy a guided walk. Head to Agando, where you will see the magnificent landscape of volcanic basalt formations at Roques de Agando and Orchilla, one of La Gomera’s most striking features at 4,074 feet high. Then, your motor coach will return you to your yacht.
 
Please note: This tour is not recommended for wheelchairs or people with mobility issues due to the amount of walking required. All roads on La Gomera are winding and there are some ravines. It is advised that you bring your camera, comfortable shoes and seasonal clothes like a jacket are recommended.

            

 

 

 

You will board your motor coach and depart from San Sebastián, the capital and harbor of the island. It is a pretty, picturesque village with about 7,000 inhabitants. This is where Columbus prepared his ships, took in water and food supplies and where La Asunción’s church stands. Columbus and his crew attended mass there before setting out on his way to America. You will have a 45-minute drive on the south road  to“Degollada Peraza”  and arrive at the viewpoint known as “Los Roques,” an impressive rock formation. There you will have a photo stop. Continue towards the Pajarito area, in  the direction of Chipude village and on to “El Cercado." You will arrive at El Cercado, known for its artisans, handicrafts mainly in the form of pottery, a familiar tradition inherited from one generation to another. Continue to La Laguna Grande, where you will enjoy a demonstration of the whistling language ”El Silbo” and have a taste of the local liquor “Gomeron.”
