In this enchanting city the past and present intersect in perfect harmony. Casually intermingled among ancient ruins and majestic cathedrals are the trappings of a modern metropolis: Skyscrapers, cafes, boutiques selling designer footwear. But of course what you seek first in the heart of Rome is its breathtaking history. A good place to begin is the Vatican, with its Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. Works by Bernini, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and Raphael are just a few of those on display, any one of which is worth hours of contemplation. Then the ancient ruins-Colosseum, Forum, Circus Maximus. And of course the Trevi Fountain for the obligatory coins promising your return to the Eternal City.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites abound in Sorrento. Optional tours will take you to the archaeological areas of Pompeii and Torre Annunziata, or the 4th century B.C. city of Herculaneum. Perhaps your choice will be a boat ride to Positano, the legendary home of the Sirens. Perched on a terrace on the spectacular Amalfi Coast, Sorrento offers exceptional views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.
Sorrento, Herculaneum *

Sorrento, Herculaneum *
The city of Herculaneum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was founded around the 4th century B.C., copying the geometric regularity of the layout of Naples. Its "decumani" (main streets) have an east-west orientation, while the "cardines" (narrower streets) run north-south. There is undeniably a "feeling" about Herculaneum, quite different from Pompeii, where you get the impression that its ancient population of 5,000 packed up and left only moments ago. Herculaneum was smaller than Pompeii but is better preserved simply because, while hot ashes consumed the wood of Pompeii's buildings, Herculaneum was covered by hot mud which sealed and protected entire city blocks. This means that marble floors, mosaics, paintings and carbonized woods can still be admired today. You will discover the ancient luxurious properties and villas including the House of the Mosaic , the House of Deer , the Thermae (baths) and the House of Carbonized Furniture . After a guided tour, you will be driven back to meet the yacht in Sorrento. Please note : This tour involves considerable walking on uneven pathways. Bring a sun hat, as shade is limited. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Valletta, Mdina's Noble Heritage

Valletta, Mdina's Noble Heritage
Depart the quay and drive to The Silent City - Mdina , Malta's old Capital. Mdina is a medieval walled town situated on a hill in the center of the island. You will walk through the narrow streets of the town, visit St Paul's Cathedral , the Ramparts for a panoramic view, and Palazzo Falson , the best preserved palazzo of its period. Walk down any Maltese street in the town core, with its sheer limestone walls, studded doors and wooden 'gallarijas', and you will get few clues to what lies on the other side of these crumbling facades. Casa Bernard is a perfect example as its sober and imposing facade in the Mannerist 16th century architectural idiom reminiscent of Gerolamo Cassar betrays nothing of the calm, classic beauty that lies within. This walk usually lasts no more than 20 minutes at a slow pace. This is when Casa Bernard starts to shine, as apart from the beauty of its architecture one enjoys the many beautiful pieces of art both ancient and modern. Please note : To enter the Cathedral, guests must have their knees covered, no stiletto heels and no bare shoulders. Walking involves cobblestone streets and climbing steps so this tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility.

You'll want to be on deck today as we transit the narrow Corinth Canal with other private yachts and Greek mail steamers. It's a shortcut reserved for petite ships like ours, and as we cruise between the narrow limestone walls we are the envy of all the ancient Romans who once portaged their ships along this very route before there was a canal. Canal transit time and duration is subject to change based on traffic and canal authorities.

Kavala, Historic Xanthi: Echoes of the East and West
Kavala, Historic Xanthi: Echoes of the East and West
On our way to Xanthi, we’ll stop to marvel at the Nestos River, the ecological pride of North Eastern Greece. We cross at the boundary between the Kavala and Xanthi prefectures, where tree-lined banks and rugged cliffsides teem with life. Pausing our journey to take it all in, this is the perfect place to enjoy a restorative moment in nature or capture a few scenic selfies. As you get to know Xanthi, you’ll quickly understand why locals call it the city of a thousand colours. Having been destroyed, rebuilt, and expanded time and again due to raids, civil conflict, and earthquakes, calling Xanthi diverse would be an understatement. In the Old Town, no two houses look alike, and as you hear stories of Thracians and Ottomans, you’ll notice their influence woven into the surrounding architecture. On the outskirts of town, time jumps forward to the late industrial age. Tobacco trading fueled Xanthi’s prosperity in the late 19th century, and the tobacco warehouses that remain offer a vivid glimpse into that transformative era. Continue to a local restaurant for an authentic lunch.

Kavala, Discover Drama & Oenogenesis Winery
A sprawling 4,000 sq. m castle-house, inspired by the architecture of Old Macedonian mansions, is home to the Oenogenesis Winery. Located between Doxato and Adriani in the Prefecture of Drama, the estate is composed of five interconnected buildings arranged across three levels. The ground floor serves as the production, bottling, and storage area. Designed to support every step of the winemaking process, it is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology: sorting belts, excavators, pneumatic presses, stainless-steel pre-cryogenic extraction tanks for white and rosé wines, and stainless-steel fermentation and stabilization tanks with controlled cooling systems. Below ground, the cellars of the estate house more than 800 French oak barrels of 225 liters each. Under ideal temperature and humidity conditions, all red wines—and select whites—mature here, developing the distinctive character imparted by their gentle contact with the wood. During your visit, you’ll explore the winery and its distillery, learn about the vinification process, and enjoy tastings of signature wines produced on the estate. The region of Drama is a land of valleys and mountains, home to alpine refuges, ski resorts, and forests filled with birdlife. Its fertile soil supports endless stretches of tobacco fields, while caves adorned with multicolored stalactites and softly flowing rivers create an enchanting natural landscape. The prefecture’s capital, also named Drama, is a lush, green town blessed with abundant spring water and surrounded by vast tobacco plantations.

Kavala, Traces of Time: Kavala's Hills & the City of Philippi
Delve into ancient Greek and Christian history on this journey to ancient Philippi, Kavala, and the baptistery at the St. Lydia site. Philippi stands as one of the most important archaeological sites in Eastern Macedonia. The city was fortified and protected by King Philip of Macedon in 365 B.C., when it faced threats from the Thracians. Hellenistic Philippi featured a strong fortification wall, an impressive theatre, public buildings, and private residences. With the construction of the Roman Via Egnatia, the city grew into a major regional center, later coming under the control of Octavius. Philippi also holds a significant place in early Christian history: it was here, in 49 A.D., that Saint Paul founded the first Christian church on European soil. During your visit, explore the remarkable archaeological remains and pilgrimage sites that tell this layered story. On your return to the ship, stop at the St. Lydia site, where a peaceful stream marks the place where Lydia—the first European woman baptized into Christianity—embraced her new faith.
