West Indians, Latinos and Extraneros (the resident gringos) make this an easy place to feel right at home and embrace the relaxed Caribbean vibe of the town. Isla San Andres, San Andres Island Exploration
Your San Andres Island will show you " El Hoyo Soplador" (Blowing Hole) . This is a natural phenomenon, (it is the islanders' pride and joy), which is very much dependent on sea conditions. It is produced by a series of subterranean tunnels and crevices in the coral reefs that meet and come together just a few meters from shore. At high tide when a wave comes in through the tunnels with sufficient force, the compressed air in the tunnels comes rushing out the hole and natives exclaim, "hush, the hole's blowing.'' Experience a traditional island neighborhood in the San Luis area, a big tourist attraction with beautiful white sandy beaches that contrast magnificently with the blue and green Caribbean's ocean colors. Head to La Loma and visit the oldest Baptist church in the Americas and the most representative monument on the Island. It was built with pinewood, brought all the way from Alabama. The church dates back to 1846 and the chapel was built in 1896. Many Baptist from around the world have come here to pay homage. And they say that inside the church a spiritual magic is felt that invites one to meditate. On to Morgan's Cave. This part of the Tour will take you down to the famous labyrinth that opens onto an all but deserted beach. The beach has remained almost undisturbed because it's so hard to reach. Local legend has it that pirates hid treasure within the cave. This has yet to be proven. Finally visit the Coco Plum resort for a drink.
