Catania, Ancient Syracuse

The name of Siracusa suggests a warm climate, blue skies, a beautiful bay, and the ancient ruins of a Greek city which was the rival of Athens. You will board your bus for the 75-minute ride to Neapolis Archaeological Park which was created between 1952 and 1955 and contains many classical monuments. For security reasons you will only have access to the Greek Theatre and part of the Latomia del Paradiso, one of the ancient stone quarries; the other monuments can be viewed from a distance. This doesn’t detract in any way from the powerful fascination of this unique place. The Greek Theatre, dated back to 5th century B.C,. is one of the largest and best preserved theaters of the ancient world. The Roman Amphitheater which is hewn out of the rocks, dates from 2nd century A.D., and the entrance and gangways for animals and gladiators can still be seen. You’ll proceed to Ortigia and walk about a half a mile to Old Town Ortigia. You will visit Arethusa Fountain the legendary cradle of the city. From the nearby platform there is a view of the beautiful Bay of Siracusa, you will proceed to the Cathedral built in the 7th century on the foundation of the former Temple of Minerva, using the nine columns which can be seen on the north side and the 19 columns of the nave..

Today you will have the opportunity to visit the amazing Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This splendid archaeological park consists of eight temples (and various other remains) built between about 510 B.C. and 430 B.C. You will see the Temple of Hera, the Temple of Concordia (one of the best preserved), the Temple of Heracles, the Temple of Olympian Zeus (the largest temple), the Temple of Castor and Pollux, the Temple of Hephaestos, the Temple of Demeter, and the Temple of Asclepius (the God of Medicine). The tour will start in a minibus driving from the pier through the streets of central Barcelona towards the Sagrada Familia district, where the Gaudi’s sacred cathedral is located. You will have a brief pause for commentary from the guide and a few minutes stop in Emporio Souvenir, where you will get some free time for shopping. After that, you will follow to Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau located in a group of buildings and one of the main representatives of Catalan modernism. It was built between 1902 and 1930 in two phases: the first by Domènech, between 1902 and 1913, it consists of 13 modernist buildings; the second, carried out by his son Pere Domènech i Roura from 1920. End your journey with exclusive shopping in LLadro Shop: The luxury handcrafted porcelain of the 21st century. Lighting, home accessories, decorative sculptures and figurines. The company was founded in 1953 by three brothers, Juán, José and Vicente Lladró, in the village of Almàssera near Valencia. Starting with items such as vases and jugs, it wasn't until 1956 that they started producing the sculptures for which they are now known. Interest in the items produced by the Lladró brothers saw their small workshop expand several times until eventually they moved to Tavernes Blanques in 1958. Barcelona, Barcelona Highlights Tour with Pier Dropoff

Setting out from the port by coach, you will find it easy to relax and enjoy this driving tour of Spain’s most fascinating city, Barcelona, a lovely Mediterranean stronghold of architectural interest. Your guide will point out all the highlights as the coach drives up Via Laietana to pass outside the Cathedral de la Santa Creu I Santa Eulalia. You will drive along one of Barcelona’s most famous streets, the Passeig de Gracia, lined with different Modernist buildings, many of which were designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. Watch for Casa Batlló, an iconic Barcelona landmark and Casa Mila. You will drive by one of Gaudí’s masterpieces – the Sagrada Familia (Holy Family) Church. This is a site not to be missed. Though construction was started in 1882 it is still unfinished. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the most-visited building in Barcelona, and immediately identifies the city around the world. From here you’ll head up to the El Mirador Alcalde garden with the most exceptional views of Barcelona and its impressive harbor.
