Although she lies approximately 2 miles below the surface of the North Atlantic it is possible to reach out and touch the Titanic story while in Halifax.  What the ship gave up on April 15, 1912, the City of Halifax now embraces. You will visit the 121 gravestones of her victims at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, then pass by sites connected to the aftermath of the sinking such as the morgue that accepted the body of John Jacob Astor, the church from which the unknown child was buried, and the pier from which the MacKay-Bennett, the death ship, sailed to the sinking site of the Titanic 700 nautical miles east of Halifax. Finally, you will visit the Maritime Museum where you will see the largest collection of wooden Titanic artifacts in the world and hear the tale of the visit to Halifax by the ship’s most famous survivor, the unsinkable Molly Brown. The legend of the Titanic lives on and this tour will give you some of that enduring mystique in this captivating experience.

Operated by the National Park Service, the museum features ship models, tools, and photographs that reveal island life during the 19th and early 20th centuries, and will provide a glimpse of the hearty inhabitants that carved out a unique lifestyle on the island.  After visiting Little Cranberry Island, continue your cruise into the fjord of Somes Sound. Throughout your cruise, your naturalist will discuss the relationship between people and the sea, and search for wildlife.

The undeniable beauty and majesty of Acadia National Park is just a short hop from Bar Harbor but it probably feels like another world. After boarding your air-conditioned transportation at the pier, you'll travel along the Park's scenic Loop Road that encircles Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park. Stop at the Hull's Cove Visitor Center and explore the extensive diorama of the park, collect maps, and trace the route you are about to take before setting off into the reserve. Sit back and relax as you pass by the many beautiful carriage roads and hand-cut stone bridges. You'll continue past famous sights including Jordan Pond House, and Otter Cliffs, before arriving at Cadillac Mountain, named for French explorer Sieur de la Mothe Cadillac, who migrated from France and settled in Maine during the 17th century, (and later moved west and established a little town called Detroit).  Cadillac Mountain rises 1,532 feet above Mount Desert Island. It's not only the tallest mountain in Acadia but is the highest point along North America's eastern seaboard and from October to March it's the first spot in the U.S. to see the morning sun. It may be windy up at the top but a walk up to the summit rewards you with dramatic 360-degree views of Bar Harbor, Frenchman Bay, and the Cranberry Islands. Then it's on to another natural wonder: Thunder Hole. This small inlet is famous for the thunderous clap that occurs when seawater crashes into the tiny inlet and water is forced out. If you decide to take a photo, be prepared to get soaked, the waterspout can explode as high as 40 feet! On your way to the restaurant you'll travel through picturesque Seal Beach. Once at the restaurant you'll enjoy a buffet lunch that includes lobster (steak is available for those who do not prefer lobster), clam chowder, corn on the cob, potato salad, coleslaw, and your choice of blueberry dessert or cake. After lunch, another must see photo stop is on the itinerary before you return to your ship. In the heart of the Park is the Jordan Pond House with a beautiful view of the Penobscot Mountains and Bubbles Hill as you explore the grounds.

On this half day excursion, you will see three prominent lighthouses and visit the Museum of Portland Head Light. Your journey will begin as you drive through historic Portland, passing by the Eastern Promenade offering a panoramic view of Casco Bay, the Portland Observatory, the new Arts District, as well as the thriving commercial and business districts. Your first stop will be at “Bug Light,” a steel structure lined with brick that was first lit in 1875 as an aid to navigation for this busy port. In addition, you will enjoy the Liberty Ship Memorial dedicated to the 266 ships built on the site during WWII. Your next stop will be at Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse, a typical “sparkplug” style lighthouse constructed of brick on a cylindrical cast iron caisson.  Your excursion will continue as you travel along Cape Elizabeth’s rocky coast to Fort Williams, once a military outpost for coastal defense and now home to Maine’s oldest lighthouse, Portland Head Light. Here, you will have ample time to explore the grounds and visit the impressive museum located in the former lighthouse keeper’s quarters.

Please note:  This tour is a coach tour with some walking involved during scheduled stops (however it is possible for guests to remain on the coach at this stop). Walking during the free time is at your own discretion.
