Arriving to San Jose, the capital and largest city in Costa Rica, San Jose has a lot to offer its visitors that hail from around the world. It is a contrasted city with exhilarating expressions of history, traditions, art and architecture.
The tour begins with an initial orientation and drive through the beautiful Sabana Park. Next, you will have a short visit to the historic National Theater. Completed in 1897, the theater is a masterpiece in art and architecture. Afterwards, we will visit one of the many unique museums of Costa Rica. The Pre-Columbian Gold Museum (entrance included) which has an extraordinary collection of gold objects that reflect the world view, social structure and gold-working techniques of the Pre-Columbian peoples of Costa Rica. The exhibition showcases the use and function of the pieces, the technology of their fabrication, and their relationship to the natural world and the daily life of these societies. The collection consists of 1600 pieces of Pre-Columbian gold work that date from 500 AD to 1500 AD. After this extraordinary museum tour, we will continue heading to the National Museum, Atlantic Ferrocarril Station. Rail transport in Costa Rica is under the ownership of Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (INCOFER). The Estación al Atlántico (Atlantic Station) today serves as the San José hub for the commuter train to Heredia and Cartago provinces. And although trains no longer leave for the Atlantic coast from this station, the name remains, and various sites of interest when we are returning to the international airport.

Your guided journey will traverse leisurely down past a myriad of rushing jungle mountain streams to the river rodeo where you can swim beneath the mesmerizing and pristine waterfalls that feed these rivers along their journey to the coastline of Manuel Antonio. Enjoy a demonstration of an authentic sugar cane mill trapiche and also fish for tilapia, during your free time to explore the tropical gardens and waterfalls and participate in the carbon offset tree adoption program that’s planting and maintaining over 10,000 trees in the area by filling out a carbon offset form at lunch. Enjoy lunch within the tiny farm village of Santa Juana, overlooking the panoramic coastline of the central Pacific Ocean while enjoying an authentic campesino lunch in a typical village rancho co-hosted by members of the local community. Learn about the roots of Costa Rican agriculture, from sugar cane processing to coffee production, and experience the true meaning of “Pura Vida” with the traditional rural lifestyle and heritage that these tour proceeds will help to preserve along with other conservation programs being developed.
Please note: This tour is not wheelchair accessible. The road is bumpy and winding and there are stairs involved. This tour includes a light breakfast and a buffet lunch. There is an option for swimming so wear your bathing suit under your clothes.
