Anau: A lagoon dive in which you will follow a slope where rose corals grow and you are very likely to meet manta rays there.  The visibility here may not be as clear sometimes due to the plankton.

 

Please note: The Dive Tour being offered is for Certified Divers only. Certified Divers need to bring their PADI - CMAS Cards or other proof of certification, including a log book. Waiver release forms must be signed and medical conditions must be disclosed. Bring your C-card. Nitrox is free of charge for Nitrox Certified Divers. Please wear your swimsuit under your clothing and bring a towel, spare t-shirt and sun block.  Please take a refresher course before the cruise if you haven’t been diving in over a year. Ride by covered motorized boat to the west coast of Tahaa to discover the beauty of the island. Put on your water shoes to leave the boat and walk across an uninhabited motu (islet) off the coast. Start your snorkeling experience from the other side of the motu. Your guide will lead you as the current carries you along over shallow corals. There’s no stopping along the way through the shallow lagoon and the drift will be done up to 3 times (as time allows). An alternate site may be used depending on the current and water level. The area teems with a spectacular variety of tropical fish and amazing corals.  The richness of this coral garden is unique in Polynesia!
 
Please note: To cross the motu and reach the starting point of the drift snorkeling adventure, wear aqua shoes or similar shoes you do not mind getting wet.  Participants must be extremely comfortable in the water as snorkeling is done over very shallow water through a current that can be really strong. Meet your guide for an informative & intimate tour by minibus. Drive towards the south of Raiatea. Along the east coast of the island, past the small village of Avera, you will discover the world of pearl farming, visit a little local farmer and appreciate the process of one of the main resources of French Polynesia, a little shopping may be done here (cash only!) Continuing along the Faaroa River you will then reach the district of OPOA where the unique UNESCO World Heritage Site Marae Taputapuātea is located. This site is at the center of the ‘Polynesian Triangle,’ a vast portion of the Pacific Ocean, dotted with islands, and the last part of the globe to be settled by humans. The property includes two forested valleys, a portion of lagoon and coral reef and a strip of open ocean. At the heart of the property is the Taputapuātea Marae complex, a political, ceremonial and funerary center. As the ancestral homeland of Polynesian culture, Taputapuātea is of outstanding significance for people throughout the whole of Polynesia, for the way it symbolizes their origins, connects them with ancestors and as an expression of their spirituality. Your visit here will include a tour around the main platform and allow you to learn a bit more about this exceptional testimony to 1,000 years of Mā'ohi civilization. Board a 4-wheel-drive vehicle for a ride through Moorea’s deep valleys and mountains. In the Paopao Valley you’ll pass some pineapple plantations, then cross to the territorial property of Opunohu. A stop at one of the numerous marae (ancient, sacred site) will allow you to learn more about Polynesian culture. Continue to the Belvedere Lookout point for a panoramic view of Cook and Opunohu Bays, weather dependent you will get an impressive panorama from here.  Return through the interior trails of the Rotui Mountain and get acquainted with the local flora. Discover Moorea’s main viewpoints with this bicycle guided tour to Belvedere and the Pineapple Valley. After an introductory course on how to use the simple E-bike settings, get ready to bike the Bay! Choose the setting that fit your fitness level, from no assistance to Turbo and enjoy the ride. Along the way, the guide will provide information about the sites and their history; you will have plenty opportunity for pictures. Pedal nearby the pineapple plantations and stop for some jam tasting at the Agricultural High school. Visit the famous bay of Moorea and some beautiful views of the villages and rural leaving along the way. Finish your tour with a beach stop for a swim opportunity. Your Electric assisted mountain bike will make it really fun and easy, and biking the pineapple island remains a unique moment to enjoy nature and its beauty in an ecological manner!

 

Please note: While this tour is an assisted bike ride, guests must be in good fitness condition to be able to keep up with a group at a fair speed during the tour. There will be some uphill & downhill parts, & riding in a tropical environment (Heat & humidity). Guests MUST know how to ride a bike and pregnant women & guests with physical limitations will not be permitted to participate on this tour. Guests are recommended to wear closed toe shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and sunglasses, carry their own bottles of water and a light snack!  The ride is approximately 20 to 25Km (12 mi) in length and depends on the ship anchorage position.

Moorea, Whale Watching

Humpback Whales migrate annually from summer feeding grounds near the poles to warmer winter breeding waters of the South Pacific. Tahiti is home to many of them during the period of late July to early October. Mothers and their young swim close together, often touching one another with their flippers. Join Dr. Michael Poole for a unique opportunity to learn about these marine mammals. Sail along the coastline in search of a surprising jump or a sight of their pectoral fins! The company offering this tour follows international Ecotourism guidelines and is an active contributor to the conservation of French Polynesia’s dolphins and whales. The tour is always an opportunity to study the animals for scientific purpose, and you will learn many things from your expert guide. Dependent on whale behavior, weather and sea conditions, an optional swim may be done. This can never be guaranteed. If a swim occurs, water entry will be done via a side ladder, all guests will have to respect the legal rules for whale watching. Your operator will respect whale watching code that includes keeping a safe distance for boats at 328 feet (100M) away from the animal. Swimming is regulated to a 98 feet (30M) away from the whales. Never separate a calf from its mother, never touch an animal. Water entry is done in a calm, silent manner, group remains together, and group does not track the animals.
 
Please note:  Guests should bring their gear from the ship, fins are compulsory as your swim would be in deep ocean, gear is not provided during the tour.  Tour operator requires guests participating in water activities, to know how to swim, be comfortable in the water and able to cope with occasional currents. Guests who don’t know how to swim should NOT get in the water. Depth of water is never guaranteed, due to currents and sea level variation. Guests are reminded to verify their ability prior to taking part in a water activity. Touring onboard a boat requires vigilance; guests must be physically alert of the boat environment and fit to negotiate steps, vessel surroundings. Wildlife sightings are likely but never guaranteed. Wear your swimsuit under a cover up and bring a hat, towel, and bottled water from the ship. Biodegradable sun protection is recommended since most sunscreens contain substances that are extremely harmful to the marine ecosystem. For your own safety and to preserve the environment, please respect reef etiquette when snorkeling and do not touch or step on the coral reef.

You will head towards the east coast of Tahiti to visit the James Norman Hall House. The home displays the daily environment of this poet and writer of American contemporary literature. Enjoy a local delicacy before you continue on to Matavai Bay, and reach Venus Point, the historic landing site for most European discoverers and evangelists. Matavai Bay boasts the only lighthouse of the island, built in 1867. A Handicraft Center is located next to the lighthouse and you will have a brief opportunity for some local shopping.  Your last stop will be at the Tahara’a View Point for an extraordinary photo opportunity overlooking Papeete and Moorea.
