You will board your motor coach at the pier and drive along the famous Quai des Chartrons, the center of the Bordeaux wine trade. Your tour of Médoc will start just north of the city. The Medoc Wine Road, located between the Gironde estuary and the Landes forest, will provide magnificent views of vine-covered gravelly rises as far as the eye can see. You will have the opportunity to take photos of some of the most famous Châteaux of the area such as Margaux, and Pichon Longueville.  Médoc vineyards are orderly and well-kept almost to the point of fanaticism, and the region's world famous châteaux produce wine that are nothing short of divine... Moulis, Listrac, Saint Julien, Saint Estèphe, Pauillac, Médoc, Haut Médoc and Margaux (with the celebrated château of the same name). You will be able to visit the cellars of one of these famous châteaux -  Giscours, Lynch Bages, Siran,Lagrange, Dauzac, Desmirail, Camensac,Palmer, Issan, Kirwan, Prieuré Lichine, Rausan Ségla, or d'Arsac. You will learn the techniques of wine making during your visit of the cellars and before a wine tasting.

There can be no better place to start a visit to this attractive region than Saint Emilion, heartland of the merlot grape, which produces delicious, rich, round wines. The vines on the "hill with a thousand châteaux," reach right up to Saint Emilion's 13th century town walls and surrounding moat dug out of solid rock.  You will stop at one of the nearby wine chateaux and will learn the techniques of wine making during your visit to their cellar and enjoy a wine tasting. Arriving in the village, your guide will take you for a walking tour to see the main attractions: the Collegiale Church and its magnificent cloister from the 12th century, the Ramparts, the Market Place, and the Monolithic Church. Strolling in the streets, you will also see the Cadene Gate and the King's Tower. Then, you will have some time at leisure for exploring the village on your own.

Begin your exploration of El Ferrol with a panoramic drive in your air-conditioned bus. You will continue on to Betanzos where you will be met by your guide. Declared a Joint Historical and Artistic Heritage in 1970, Betanzos is home to one of the most interesting old quarters of Galicia. The large city guards artistic treasures of incalculable value.  Your walking tour will include sites like the Consistorial Palace, raised in the 18th century by Luck Rodriguez and surrounded by palaces and buildings with galleries. See the Palace of Bendana, constructed in the 15th century. You will see the 11th century Church of Santiago, and the Palace of Lanzós, constructed around 1620. Your stroll with continue to the Gothic District, the Palace of Counts de Taboada and the impressive churches of Santa Maria and San Francisco (external view) , jewels of Gothic Gallego constructed by Fernán the Perez de Andrade in the  14th century, one of the most beautiful examples of the Galician medieval architecture. After this guided visit you will have some of free time before returning to your yacht.

You will begin your adventure with a  1-hour panoramic drive from El Ferrol to the city of A Coruña.  Admire the Riazor and Orzen beaches, the House of Mankind (a work of Japanese architect Arata Isozaki), and the Aquarium Finisterrae.  You will have time to take some photos at the Tower of Hercules, built in the 2nd  century by the Emperor Trajan and the oldest Roman lighthouse in the world and, unbelievably, still in use today. Re-board the coach and follow the coastline past the window houses that gave A Coruña its Crystal City nickname. Watch for the Archaeological Museum housed in San Anton Castle and the Mendez Nuñez Gardens. Next, you will  leave your motor coach and make your way on foot down the narrow cobblestone streets to Plaza Maria Pita, a vast pedestrian square surrounded by terraced cafés and arcades. Delight in the friendly and social atmosphere of a local Spanish bar, where you will be treated to tapas - snacks of local cheese, crusty homemade bread, cured ham and local specialties complemented by Galician wine. Tapas are a very important part of Spanish culture and are often enjoyed by locals at the pub with a glass of wine or during a quick stop at a restaurant between meals. Afterward, walk the short distance back to the harbor with your guide or take the opportunity to browse on your own in the quaint Old Town before returning to the pier at your leisure.

Board your air-conditioned bus for the 45-minute trip to Valença do Minho, a walled town located on the left bank of the Minho River.  Your walking tour will take you past Gothic and Renaissance residences, and offer superb views of the quiet Minho River which you will cross. On the other side of the river stands the Spanish town of Tui with its Cathedral built on top of a small hill. See Valença's fortress, a piece of Gothic and Baroque military architecture. The first walls were built in the 13th century. It was upgraded during the 17th and 18th centuries forming the present bulwarked system, placed on top of two small hills and formed by two polygons which are separated by a ditch and with four doors (Coroada, Gaviarra, Fonte da Vila and Sol). The main entrance is Porta do Sol (Sun's door). Within the fort is the old town full of small shops selling items, particularly textiles, which you will have time to browse through. From there, board your bus to finish your visit in Vigo admiring El Castro de Vigo (the Castro Fortress).

You will be driven to the Village of Combarro, where you’ll make your way to the seaside, passing through the village’s narrow streets. You will have the opportunity to see the two main structures of the area. The first one, Horreo is the most common construction in Galicia used for ripening, drying and storing grain.  The second one is a Batea which is a floating dock, used for mussel farming. You will have free time to discover on your own and take pictures.  Later, you will visit the charming town of El Grove, and board a small boat for a trip along the estuary. You will learn all about mussel farming, the main economy of this area that has made it quite famous. You'll be able to taste fresh boiled mussels and a delicious white wine or soft drinks while enjoying a marvelous view of the estuary. Return back to Vigo after your tour.

This tour will depart from the port of Cádiz for a visit to the historical center of town and its bay. Your guide will point out the important monuments and landmarks along the way. Watch for the Mudejar-style tobacco factory (1741) which now serves as the Congress building, Santo Domingo Church, the old Royal Prison in Andalusian neo-classical style and the Roman Theatre which overlooks the city’s main cathedral. Before reaching the city center, you will also pass the ancient Phoenician port of La Caleta, the Botanical Gardens and the castle walls that once protected the town. Leave the motorcoach at Plaza de España and start your walking tour through the most typical streets of the city. You will see the Plaza de la Mina, once a monk’s vegetable patch, and the outside of the Cádiz Museum. On Calle Ancha, there are beautiful 19th century palaces and the Cathedral where you can step inside to view an eclectic transition from 13th century Baroque style to 19th century neo-classical style.  Flamenco, a vibrant mixture of dance, song and guitar is the heart and soul of Andalucía. You will start your tour  with a drive to  Jerez City  and proceed to  visit  a Vineyard, Virey Laserna Palace and  Fundador sherry cellars.  Your tour will start with  a private visit to the Vineyard in Finca El Majuelo, located in Jerez de la Frontera, a town only 30 miles from the sea and the city of Cádiz. The landscape you will see changes from the dry coastal plain to the fertile land near Jerez. The milder climate makes it possible to cultivate the grapes that produce the three main varieties of sherry.  You will visit  Virey Laserna Palace, located in the heart of  the historic center of the city, also known as the Palace of the Conde de los Andes. The beautiful architectural design of the Palace has a neoclassical style reminiscent of an earlier period with a garden and exquisite decorations inside. Moorish-influenced Seville lies in the heart of Andalusia, on the Guadalquivir River Plain. Become acquainted with one of Spain’s greatest and most beautiful cities. Travel by motor coach 1¾ hours north to Seville, which features many architectural highlights, including the cathedral, and Casa de Pilatos. After a 1-hour visit to the cathedral, you will stroll through the old Jewish area, known as the Santa Cruz Quarter. Artisans’ shops and quaint cafés occupy whitewashed houses crowded along meandering alleys and charming squares.  Following lunch on your own, you will take in a panoramic overview of Seville seeing such landmark monuments as the Torre del Oro and La Giralda Tower before taking a refreshing stop at the Plaza de España. Pause to admire this impressive square, which is crossed by a canal, before rejoining your motor coach for the 1¾-hour return drive to the ship.

You will board your minivan quayside for the short ride to the Cable Car Base Station.  Your cable car will take you to the Top Station perched on the summit of “The Rock,” for a breathtaking view as you are suspended in mid-air. Those of you who delight in ancient history and art lovers cannot miss this tour! With half a million inhabitants, Málaga is located in the center of the Costa del Sol. From the outside you will admire the beautiful architecture of the Alcazaba Fortress, a historic castle built in the 11th century to be the residence of the Arabian Caliphs or Kings. It is connected by a step path to Gibralfaro Castle, an ancient Moorish fortress with breathtaking views of the city and its bay. Buses will take you to the castle so you won’t have to walk up the hill. The Museo Picasso Málaga is run by the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga and the Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso. The Fundación Paul, Christine y Bernard Ruiz-Picasso is the rightful owner of the collection there, whereas the Fundación Museo Picasso de Málaga owns the group of buildings that holds it. As was initially agreed by the donors, the two foundations are responsible for the conservation, exhibition, study and diffusion of the collection. At the museum, you will be able to appreciate all Picasso styles and techniques (Painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramic and graphic works in an exhibition with 155 works ranging from 1890 up to 1973.

Some things are just plain fun and riding a Segway around Spain definitely falls into that category. It takes a few minutes to get the hang of it; then you'll never want to get off! You'll begin your ride (after an introduction to the operation of the Segway) at Plaza de la Marina, in the center of Málaga. Continue to Larios Street, the main shopping avenue of the city, then on to Merced Square, at the end of Calle Alcazabilla, to see the obelisk erected as a tribute to General Torrijos, currently the headquarters of the Picasso Foundation. Next you will ride to the Santiago Church, built on the site of a former mosque and Málaga's oldest church (founded in 1490). You’ll also visit the Roman Theatre, discovered in 1951, which was built in the time of Caesar Augustus and used until the 3rd century A.D. After that time, it was used as a quarry by the Moors to restore the Alcazaba, which is the next stop on your tour. This impressive building, constructed mainly in the 11th century, was the palace/fortress of the ruling Muslims. Continuing on your tour, you’ll see the Catedral de la Encarnacion, Bishop Square, and the Paseo del Parque, before returning to Marina Square.

Your tour departs from the port for the 1-hour drive to reach Montserrat, a peculiar rocky mountain range which is the site of the monastery where people come to worship “La Moreneta,” the black Madonna who is the patron-virgin of Catalonia.  The Benedictine Monastery of Montserrat was founded in the 11th century and is located in a natural park 37 miles west of Barcelona. Besides visiting the Benedictine Abbey Monastery, you will admire also the Patron of Catalonia, Saint Mary of Montserrat that is worshiped at the shrine in the Monastery. The Benedictine community, now numbering some 80 monks, has served the shrine for almost 1,000 years. They are dedicated to a life of prayer, to working and to welcoming pilgrims, making the site a place for dialogue, prayer and culture. In addition to the monks, the escolans also live in Montserrat. They form the oldest boys choir in Europe ( and might be available during the visit).  You will be given a tour of the monastery, and have some free time before taking the coach back to the Windstar hotel.

 

Please note:  Comfortable shoes, water, a light jacket and a hat are recommended. There are downhill and uneven paths, plus cobblestones to walk over. There may be long lines to view the Black Virgin up close.  This excursion may operate in reverse. Access to the Basilica might be denied if mass is taking place. Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter monastery.  This tour will end  at your Windstar hote and is available only to guests staying overnight in Barcelona.

Setting out from the port by coach, you will find it easy to relax and enjoy this driving tour of Spain’s most fascinating city, Barcelona, a lovely Mediterranean stronghold of architectural interest. You will drive along one of Barcelona’s most famous streets, the Passeig de Gracia, lined with different Modernist buildings, many of which were designed by architect Antoni Gaudí. Watch for Casa Batlló, an iconic Barcelona landmark and Casa Mila. You will drive by one of Gaudí’s masterpieces – the Sagrada Familia (Holy Family) Church (outside visit). This is a site not to be missed. Though construction was started in 1882 it is still unfinished. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the most-visited building in Barcelona, and immediately identifies the city around the world. From here you’ll head up to the viewpoint in Montjuic with the most exceptional views of Barcelona and its impressive harbor.
